I agree.
Hate to say it, but I agree with Chief. A lot of people in the athletic department dropped the ball. And as a result ticket sales are going to suffer quite a bit. Is Cincy the best home game next year...? Yikes. There is no other way to say it - UConn dropped the ball - Benedict, KO and the guy who does the schedule need to take responsibility. These guys make a lot of money and they need to be on the ball. This isn't rocket science - perhaps Warde left us in a bad place on the schedule but really - this is the best home schedule they can come up with? - very disappointing.
Despite the fact that both of those teams struggled, both games were still sold out with a lively atmosphere. Even though both teams had a down year, UConn fully intended to schedule a top 25 opponent. This Auburn game will not sell out and UConn surely did not try to schedule a top 25 opponent. It can be debated whether they wanted a top team or not for this game, but to state interest in scheduling a "high-major" as they had, ending up with Auburn is nothing but a disappointment. Our "marquee" home games vs OSU and GTown were really super marquee last year.
Quite frankly I also agree with Chief. Honestly it seems like Benedict did his old school a favor because this does nothing for UConn.
Is it really such an abstract idea to think that Auburn will not be a top 25 team? When UConn signed OSU and Georgetown last season they presumed it would be a top 25 matchup. No shot of that with Auburn this year.

Because if they valued having a big time OOC opponent at home they wouldn't have waited until two weeks ago to start looking. I'm sure they had the bar set higher than Auburn, but that's water under the bridge. How do you know they didn't try?
The D1 online scheduling board:How do you KNOW they started looking 2 weeks ago? You really think that?
