Seriously??

The next great Olympic sport? It could be cornhole

I'll admit there are numerous Olympic sports I've just never understood how they made it to the Olympics as an actual event - Curling, synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, competitive walking, etc. Don't get me wrong - it takes tons of talent to do any Olympic sport, but if those sports can make it, I guess why not Cornhole?

Competitive darts, Axe throwing, Poker, what else? Cliff diving? I've seen all of them on ESPN at various times. Must be popular, since they wouldn't be televised if no one watched... How about splash Olympics (do cannon balls off the high meter platform from diving) to see who can make the biggest splash? Style points awarded like in skateboarding and snow boarding? Arm wrestling? Not that far from regular wrestling. Sumo? Big advantage to Japan, but still would be fun. They already have ping pong - how about beer pong??!! They have field hockey, hand ball, baseball and softball, but no cricket? They have water polo and dressage/etc. but no horse polo (side note - I think UCONN has has a few NC's in this event)?

This Olympics they added skateboarding, karate (surprising that wasn't already in since they have judo, wrestling and boxing), surfing, and sport climbing (as in climbing rocks etc). ON edit - they also added 3 x 3 basketball - how could I forget that?? Gold medal for Steph Dolson!!!! I think it would be fun to add an "American Ninja Warrior" obstacle course an do that - way more exciting than just plain rock climbing. If they have speed skating, why not roller blade racing? Maybe car racing? Or go-carts could be fun. Or beach dune buggy racing?

What other Olympic sports don't you get (ie. shouldn't have them)? What realistic sports should be added? What crazy sports should be added? I bet the BY'ers could come up with some clever things.

This kind of reminds me of Vegas Vacation when Clark sucked at the regular gambling games so he went to the casino that had head or tails and how many fingers do I have behind my back.

I love the American Ninja course idea - hate cornhole.

They are eliminating softball for 2024 which sours me on the idea of adding other new sports while they can't accommodate that one.

I also am unsure about skateboarding, though I am not necessarily opposed. The idea that you have a sport where 13 year olds dominate just seems odd to me.

Arm wrestling. I actually enjoy some of those guys who's technique overcomes brute strength.

Barrel Jumping

Long jumping on skates was an informal sport in nineteenth-century Holland. It grew out of obstacle races in which speed skaters jumped fences, walls, and man-made barriers. During the 1920s and ’30s, barrels were often placed to mark the boundaries of a course. Skaters amused themselves and spectators before and after races by laying the barrels on their sides and jumping them.

Some of the OP's sports that are "in" are just obscure to us, not the world. Artistic Swimming and Rhythmic Gymnastics doubtless date to a time when women were deemed unable to do the "physical" stuff - like either of those is easy. Every time I see the swimming I think of the Esther Williams movies of whenever they were (I've only seen clips). Walking probably goes back to near the beginnings of the modern games.

The sport climbing was, well, odd. 3 disciplines, a speed climbing, bouldering and "lead". On walls that hang outwards at odd angles. Winner determined by multiplying your placements - i.e. if you were 1st, 2nd and 4th your total score would be 8. I think someone from USA came in 2nd or 3rd. It all blurs. Not a lot of fun to watch (for me), except the speed climbing.

I don't know of anything that really needs to be added.

Poker. ESPN has declared it to be a sport. The whole world plays cards (of some sort), the whole world gambles (not that it's a good thing, but everyone does it), and the rules are easy to follow (unless FIPA - the Federation Internationale de Poker Association) decides to mess with it, which they most certainly will. Ratings for networks won't be affected, since anyone watching people playing poker are already drunk and up at four in the morning anyway. It might even be a ratings boost, which is all they really care about.

These are in already, but new: 3x3 basketball and skateboarding. They will be huge fan events in the future.

Karate is out in the next Olympics, I saw the American win the Bronze. It is quite an impressive physical/mental discipline,

Another sport- guessing the actual height of UConn women's; basketball players.

Cornhole? Pleaseplease not. I'd rather see Frisbee.
Golf or ultimate?

Actually, ultimate might be pretty good as long as there's no drug testing. ;)

I think they could modify some of the existing sports to add the additional element of the unexpected. For example, in mountain biking they could make it more exciting by introducing bears.

OMG I used to watch this on ABC's Wide World of Sports when I was a girl. By all means make it an Olympic sport! :D
