Just trying to get a rise out of some of you.

I do know for a fact that he was reaching out to Uconn immediately after PP was fired. While it would be disappointing based on other names being floated, do not be surprised if this name starts to emerge again.

Get real.

As was mentioned earlier, he seems to start off slowly, but has built each program he's been HC at into a successful one in a few years time. Fordham, Richmond and now Bowling Green all became solid programs with only three losses each in his final season, to this point that is. Couple that with between nine and eleven wins at each stop and you begin to see why he was voted NCAA Division I FCS coach of the year twice!

From Wikipedia: "The 2013 season has proven to be Clawson's most successful season thus far at Bowling Green. His Falcons have posted a 9-3 record in the regular season, including a 7-1 conference record. This has resulted in the school's first MAC division title since 2003, and has set up a meeting with the MAC West Division champions, the Northern Illinois Huskies, in the MAC Championship Game, scheduled to be played in Detroit on December 6th, 2013." That would be tonight! A chance to see our potential new HC in action. (ESPN2, 8:00pm)

Not sold on Clawson after his shirt stint at Tennessee. I remember a guy named Kragthorpe being a GREAT coach at Bowling Green too. I'd rather see Ambrose than Clawson..and i don't want Ambrose anywhere near this program!!!
University of Tennessee
On January 11, 2008, it was announced that Dave Clawson had been hired as the newoffensive coordinator for the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team by head coach Phillip Fulmer.[7] He replaced David Cutcliffe, who moved to Duke University as head coach. Clawson's stay in Knoxville was short and disappointing. Fulmer was forced to resign as head coach with 3 games left in the 2008 season. Incoming head coach Lane Kiffin relieved Clawson of his duties on December 1, 2008. With Clawson as their offensive coordinator, Tennessee suffered its worst statistical offensive season in over 30 years.

I don't dislike Clawson, he has good credentials, but to me he is no more exciting than TJ, so why not just keep TJ and let him and Warde go out and rebuild the defensive staff.

Bowling Green has a very good defense, I would prefer we just steal their defensive coordinator.

One bad year under Fulmer 5 years ago does not make him a bad coach/choice...

That team was a crap show w/ a new QB and a new offensive coaching staff... Besides Foster - they had an empty cupboard.

Not my first choice but not in the bottom half either.

Do you think it had anything to do with the talent he had to work with (for 11 months) that got the head coach fired? Tough to implement your system with other people's talent and have less than a year to do it.

I really like clawson. Have since i read the si article. I would be thrilled with him.

Any of these guys could be Kragthorpe 2.0, there are no sure things.
This is something you and I agree on.

There is something to be said about prior HC experience in all of this. So many assistants flame out on their first try as head coach. That is why Lembo and Clawson jump to the top of my list. Narduzzi has the resume but not the HC experience I think is vital.

I just wonder how many of the names being floated here are willing to wait another year or 2 where they are for future openings in their dream conference. Uconn is a step up from the MAC but it is not a quantum leap that a B1G job (even for a bottom feeder school) would be.

It is a quantum leap in salary.

UCONN is a better job than the bottom feeders in the P5. Easier to win here, pad your record and then land your dream job like Edsall. Look where Brian Kelly landed coming out of the Big East, in theory Narduzzi, Lembo or Clawson could do the same.

After looking at his current BGSU profile ( http://www.bgsufalcons.com/coaches.aspx?rc=10&path=football ) I see a guy that can probably get us to a bowl game in 2 years, but we'll never get over the hump... We'll be competitive with him, but if we want more I just don't see it with him...If he is our guy, I hope he proves me wrong...

Uconn is a total rebuild job just like any job in the P5 for a bottom feeder. Kelly took over a decent Cinci program when he left C. MI. Cinci won 8 games the year before he arrived. Kelly did make them even better, no denying what he brought to Cinci. But that is not entirely analogous to where Uconn is today. But it does support my position that bringing in someone with HC experience works better than an assistant from a big time program.

Clawson reminds me a bit like Calhoun. Best body of work but not coming off the sexiest season.

The guy from Fairfield had made a nice NCAA run and JC got bounced early that year, but JC had by far the best record over the previous years - success for more than one or two years.

I like a guy who has been a HC and been successful for more than a year or two.

How can you say that?

Everywhere he has been he has succeeded at the level he was at & lost to programs at completely different levels.

Similar success at UCONN would put in in BCS Bowl games but not NC. Alabama is at another level, just like Miss St was for BG this year.

I could live with BCS games even if it means we don't win a NC :)

Seriously? Look at the HC record:
Fordham - 0 wins to 9 and 10 win season; Richmond - building to 11 wins; BGSU - bad year 2 building to 8 wins

The guy knows how to build winners at progressively higher coaching levels. You can do a lot worse than Clawson. Uconn needs a rebuild. Clawson has done it before and can do it here.

Uconn is a total rebuild job

Not in my opinion.

Stable of young QB's (check)
Stable of young RB's (check)
WR's (check)
Foley as O-line coach and Casey at QB = OK offensive line (check)

There is no way this is a "total rebuild job". That kind of talk is just an excuse for losing (see Paul Pasqualoni)

I am hearing Whipple is a finalist.
If this is seriously true... I'm burning all my Uconn gear, canceling my season tickets and becoming a Notre Dame fan full-time.

Honestly, I think Clawson would be a perfect fit for Wake and not us.
I was about to "like" your preceding post, until I read this one;). I humbly disagree with you. After reading that Clawson utilizes talent to put them in a position to succeed rather than trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, I'm beginning to warm up to the idea. Anyone know where Bowling Green ranks in recruiting? Is Clawson able to 1) win recruiting battles and/or 2) coach up players?

None of these guys can be Kragthorpe... Since they aren't walking into a BCS team.

Can we stop saying stuff like this?

We still have an autobid ino a BCS game. It's just a little harder to get it. We need to be the top ranked team out of the group of 5. Most years thats the American Champ.
