Exactly right - the CRDA increases our AD deficit m.Don don't forget Dillan stadium and Showcase Cinemas.
I'd suggest that they disband and eliminate their salaries since they hire professional management anyway. I'd also suggest that they stop hiding their losses in the university of Connecticut athletic department by overcharging us. That's the thing that bugs me. They hide their ineptitude by shifting losses to our athletic department, which intern makes us less desirable for conference alignment.
Many stadiums have been paid off for decades. I am not certain about the funding on The Rent. At the time didn’t UTC give the state the land? Was it bonded or paid for out of the general fund? And it has been used for many non UConn purposes - Covid Vaccines etc.I wasn't aware the CRDA was involved with Dillon Stadium - I know it is a City of Hartford property but didn't think CRDA got involved?
What is the issue with Showcase Cinemas?
I know it's all state government accounting regarding rent/etc arrangements between UConn and XL/Rent, so not really sure it matters much. And one thing that UConn has never carried on its books has been debt service for the Rent, so that has obviously been a plus for UConn (many state universities around the country carry large debt loads on their athletic department books for their football stadiums). Maybe that was part of the "deal" for the Rent?
Beat cops are all political? They are all political. just like you.
Well, they're probably just busy reading you your rights and what not.Beat cops are all political?
Most of them I've ever known couldn't care less about politics.
More bathrooms create quicker lines for concessions stands, amazing isn't it.For years I have said, game day experience is most important. More bathrooms to cut down lines, great wifi and a stadium app for your phone so you can see replays and highlights at any angle from your phone
It is my understanding they always take recruits to the XL Center. These renovations can’t hurt.Shrug. That's helpful, I guess, but the notion that Connecticut coaches are going to drive perspective recruits from Storrs to Hartford to show them the "UConn compound" as a recruiting tool is pretty unlikely.
Personally, I think it makes zero sense for the state to pay the university so that the university can pay the athletic department so that the athletic department can pay the XL center so that the CDRA's annual multi million dollar budget deficit is artificially decreased. Instead, if the state believes that UConn playing in Hartford helps the finances of the state capital, they should offer us use of the XL without charge and just pay the CDRA's annual multi million dollar budget deficit directly without routing a portion through the university.
All the money is still coming from Connecticut taxpayers either way in it avoids hiding a portion of the CDRA's annual multi million dollar budget deficit in the athletics departments budget, which makes it less attractive as a potential P4 candidate.
