If you go month to month it’s only $9.99. You could just sign up for a couple months to enjoy the drama. My budget is tight. That's why I am here and not there.

Fair point. Might go that route. If you go month to month it’s only $9.99. You could just sign up for a couple months to enjoy the drama.
Mora stayed here "at least 5 years?"This is the candidate evaluation funnel, Start at number 1 and start cutting at each round:
1. Previous Head Coaching exp., doesn't matter where. What matters is have you successfully run an entire program,
2. Talent Evaluator, specifically the portal. Are you watch film, researching prospects from all over the country, checking their references for work ethic, character, and leadership like you are a stalker.
3. Recruiter, see above, can you make efficient use of resources that are above most G5 programs and opportunities better than bottom feeding P4 programs. (For example, can you out recruit portal kids against the BCs', Cuses', and Rutgers' of the world)
4. Players, Can you bring a certain number of your old players/recruits with you assuming they are worth bringing, preferably including a QB as good a JF without needing 3 years for him to develop.
5. Can DB actually convince you to come here and stay at least 5 years like Mora did. Staying is a cherry on top, getting 5 years from someone with a run like Mora is the best we can expect as long as we are an independent/non-P4.
Agreed…in a place that’s tough to recruit, having a household name would be a big help, You heard many a recruit talk about Mora’s history in the NFL.Cahill might turn out to be a great choice, but I really feel like we need a somewhat recognizable name in our next coach. We need portal players to feel like the new guy can prepare them to play on Sundays if they have that ability, and prepare them to play well if they've been stuck on the bench in their current situations...
If going coordinator with no HC experience then might as well go with Sammie. He has been successful. Perception would be UConn couldn’t attract or afford a good HC. Would he be good? Who knows?
Because we’re not working on a shoestring budget and can get a proven winner at the FBS or FCS level where the competition and demands of the job are the same or similar and therefore a better predictor of future success. Why not? We've hired retreads and has beens with fleeting success.
I like his resume. He may make our D that much better. Would be nice if he keeps Sammis in his OC role as well.![]()

I agree with your thoughts. But, someone has to go 1st and my idea is that Joe is the guy to make it work. I think it is called GenZ, the young ones today. They think differently than older folks. I coached for 40 years and the difference in todays athletes is incredible, along with the parachute parents. It is difficult to find High School coaches because of how they are treated. I started coaching in 1962 and even when losing, which I did often, parents would come over and say nice try coach. Today, not happening....So, I will let my idea of Joe being the head Coach or at least the QB coach go, but I guarantee in the not to distance future a brave AD will hire young and that will start the ball rolling. Athletes are less and less likely to respond to retreads and and/or sit the Bench. Yes, they are jumping for the $$$$$$, but there are allot of Joes and Bells out there, and many 3 start athletes looking for something different. Thanks for your comment and Old Guy signing off, In the words of the great John Wooden, "Young people need Models, not critics"!Head coach doesn't have to be the detail guy. He has to know what he wants And clearly communicate it, and to be able to manage other coaches and players so that they can take care of the details. In other words, let them do their jobs. He also needs to know a little bit about clock management because so many coaches are so bad at that when all it takes is a little bit of study. So maybe your take sounds a little bit extreme but it wouldn't shock me if somebody does try something like that in the near future. With the right staff it could just pan. I just don't think it'll be us that jumps in first. I don't think our AD operates like that.
didn't rhett lashlee go well up to the point that his wife didn't want to be here? All his coaching spots were in the South. The idea of him sounds good but this kinda smells like a Rhett Lashlee experiment
didn't rhett lashlee go well up to the point that his wife didn't want to be here?
yeah, but that may not be true of every coach's wife... remains to be seen. if we hire somebody like him will he bolt after two good years? Probably. Like mora, if that's the way it will be then I'm fine with that. You are kind of reinforcing his point.
No one but the elite have the opportunity to develop guys. The 4 schools in 4 years is becoming the norm for everyone else. These jobs have become very complex and the head coach will need to be able to work the press, the in state politicians, the upper admins at the school, the trustees and be able to engage the fan base.
This is all in addition to being able to run a top level program in an exceptionally dynamic environment at a place where there isn't a lot of history or image to sell.
It can be done, but the right guy will be able to find quality assistants and the school will need to be able to fund the staff in addition to (new to the equation) revenue sharing.
One area where I had been concluded Mora was the limited number of players who developed through the system and the corresponding reliance on the transfer portal. Yes, the portal can help fill a number of holes but we cannot expect to sustain much of anything if the number of starters new to the program continued to be as high as it had been the past couple of seasons. At some point the bulk of the roster will have to be players who have been two, three, fours years with the school and the bulk of the starters will need to be guys who will end up being multi-year starters here, more often than not with an additional season having seen the field in spot play as a backup.
If that's what the bulk of our starting lineups will look like going forward we can give up on ever having a winning record while facing a quality schedule. No one but the elite have the opportunity to develop guys. The 4 schools in 4 years is becoming the norm for everyone else.
Maybe we’ll get lucky. If that's what the bulk of our starting lineups will look like going forward we can give up on ever having a winning record while facing a quality schedule.
And RE wanted to bring in Dunndidn't rhett lashlee go well up to the point that his wife didn't want to be here?
Exactly. Here is reality. If you are successful at UConn you will be offered a job somewhere else. Mora was successful by any rational measure. Beyond successful. If the next guy goes 9-3, 9-3 he will be offered another job too.Long enough to resurrect the program. I always figured he would only be here 4-5 years if he did his job right.
Oh, you thought this was his forever job?!?
He was interviewing for the next job after his first season here.
We’ve played that card.I’m not in favor of this, but I’d quickly change course and be pumped if we did hire him. We’d win games and we’d be a better team than we were under Mora. Kelly just isn’t likable. I’m not sure that’s the image you want when you are trying to play the underdog, America’s Team type of program, like a Boise State.
I would love Ed O. Great offensive mine, great recruiter, but I doubt he'd come here with the big boys down south available.Ed Orgeron
Oh please lord make it happen.
