New Head Coach Criteria/Wishes

The football coach st Yale is a perfect gig. You have one game a year where winning is important. Other than that there is no pressure. He seems like a very knowledgeable guy but I doubt he is on any list for the UConn job.

I'm all about the young guns that have shown great growth over the past several years. Especially among bigger programs.
I like your thinking, but I want someone that has run a program.
Not just one side of the ball.

Mora was great at running the program. He came in and changed everything. Maybe he wasn’t the best tactician. But nobody can argue with his ability to build a program. A younger version of Mora would be awesome. I don’t know who that is in college coaching.

the other option is a big name, and hope they bring coaches and players. That’s expensive though.
But it gives UConn some instant credibility.

I don’t envy Dave’s challenge. Lots riding on this decision.

You couldn't get a 75% consensus on here for anything other than the superiority of CT pizza.

Reno is a good football coach. But as I said, that's less important today than being able to buy an entire roster for cash every year.
Sure. Need a football GM or someone like the guy Mora is taking with him to CSU. That sorta stuff will sort itself out during the interview process.

Biggest thing Mora accomplished here is show how the Portal is supposed to be approach. Not look at it as "everyone there has issues"

This!

People can try to spin it whatever way they'd like, but it's ultimately this. And quite frankly, the folks here should be happy that this is the reason, because it means we're still on the way up. The next hire is crucial, but we're infinitely better off than we were when we hired him...
People are gonna think I’m insane but the Tony Reno thing intrigues me

Matt Patricia mentioned. IDK about that.

Maybe as a defensive coordinator, of course I doubt he's leaving Ohio State to come here.

He has no interest in recruiting or anything like that, and he was horrible as a HC in the NFL. The BB Coaching tree as HCs is kind of awful.

Possibly. For me, I'd like to see a "recognizable name". I think it definitely helped that "Mora" was a recognizable football name, and I think that UConn needs that more than most institutions as it pertains to the transfer portal...

I want someone who has been head coach before, knows how to deal with the portal and NIL, has both College and NFL experience, will engage with our fanbase, understands what UConn and Storrs are like, understands goal of getting us into the P4, over 6 feet, handsome, likes dogs.

Is that to much to ask for?

My only problem is that Dante is a sophomore. If he was a senior I would think heck yes. But seeing as Tony has been there for a while now, I'd expect that they want Dante to get that yale degree.

But maybe his former AHC/OC/QB coach is an option...Kevin Cahill.

Hasn't been a head coach. This is a very tricky job. Going from a position coach to HC? I don't know.

Looks like a great coach though.
But he has been an associate HC so he has presumably been a part of running the day to day. And he is an all-star recruiter.

Really? Know nothing about him.

Who could the NFL coach be? Better not be Daboll or Adam Gase.
Spencer had a cup of coffee on the Giants staff a few years ago. Could be him.

Saban wants to see Dabol at Penn State.
