It is one hell of a divorce. First the Catholic schools grab all the money they can, then they not only split but take the marketable family name with them. Next thing, they will sue for alimony.

Excuse me, but, ummm, those are the CATHOLIC schools. There is no divorce. It's an annulment. You just need to pay enough and you can live sin free. And UConn is getting royally consummated.

Since the Catholic schools are taking the Big East name, our conference now needs a new one. How about some suggestions? Here's mine:

The Eastaways

One I like is 'The Faraways.' You can add 'As Possible.'

You can take advantage of our natural rivalry with Tulane and call it 'The Not-So-Big but Easies.'

I think we need a little positive thinking here...yeah, it stinks what is happening. And it looks bleak. But I refuse to give into the negativity!

With that, I propose:

The Phoenix Conference - where all of the schools left to burn in the wake of all the conference money grab obtain new life by arising from the ashes of their predecessor conference(s).

I'm trying here, I really am. But even I am not buying my attempt to be positive. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
