New Commit: Uroš Paunović (Merged)

Just so we’re clear, you’ve taken things pretty deep but my solitary point was that right now there’s zero basis to believe he’d be ahead of Furphy.

If he somehow plays meaningful minutes or contributes, it won’t be a “gotcha” to me unless he leapfrogs multiple guys based on nothing more than his basketball abilities.

If he goes from 14th man to 3rd guard, as you described, and it’s solely based on him playing better than others, I’ll gladly say you’re correct.
My depth chart is as follows.

Demary
Ball
Mullins
AK
Reed

Smith
Uros
Ross
Stew
Reibe

Hard to think we’ll consistently go 10, but I think Smith could have his games and Uros has his games like Diarra and Joey C did.

*depth chart is not order of playing time but playing time by position

Thank you for saving us from that horrible fate down the road.
My dad always said (every year before the season started )“ let’s see how they look on the court”.
I’d love a surprise this season- my first guess would be Furphy. If we get a couple surprises- we are going to be loaded.
I’m going with your Dad Scot-e. I think this roster has some elements of “a box of chocolates” from Forest Gump fame. At the very least interesting and exciting to see what you pull out of our roster “box”

“Let’s see how they look on the court”.

Millender, Furphy, Ross, Koroma, Elezaj being the final five then. Seems pretty fair.

I'd say the top nine are fairly in line.

I think the only position you'd get push back from me would be Uros because he is a huge unknown to me - I have seen absolutely nothing on video with him. I need to look some up.

Between Uros, Millender, Furphy, or Koroma are all more well known to me. A lot depends on where Hurley has Ross/Stew playing, IMO. Or if Furphy comes along faster than expected.

You really think Uros is going to be the 2nd guy off the bench? You're leaning way too hard into this take. Who knows, but the facts don't back you up. He averaged 9.2 ppg, 3 rpg, 2.5 apg in 22 mpg in the KLS while shooting 47.3% and 35.3% from 3. I know you think that league is high level basketball but it's not. It's just not. We'll see, maybe you'll be right but it's a really weird take based on the facts.

If Stewart doesn’t start he and Reibe will be the first ones off the bench. Your order is hilarious

Are you telling me, outside of the US team of course, the grown men in the highest league in Serbia are not better than the U19 players in other countries?
I lived in Serbia and attended Serbian league and Adriatic league basketball games while there.

Point 1: When well-attended, the Adriatic games are without a doubt some of the loudest events I've ever witnessed. And dangerously overcrowded with people sitting on the stairs because they oversell the seats. Oh, and they are lighting off flares and smoking in a 40+ year old building 😲

Point 2: the Adriatic league (ABA) teams, including Belgrade Red Star have some quality division 1 talent and even some former NBA players. There is an upper and lower division even within the ABA.

Point 3: The Serbian league is the minor leagues, teams may have a player at that level but they are quickly bought up by the Adriatic teams.

Point 4: So yes, the top under-19 national teams from Europe have superior talent to the Serbian basketball league.

Thanks. I'm curious, how big are the venues they play games in? Size of Gampel, a lot smaller?

Paunovic played in the ABA League 2 and the Serbian KLS for KK Zlatibor. My understanding is the ABA League 2 is kind of the minor leagues for the first division ABA League. I looked through some of the teams' rosters and there are mostly European players (obviously never heard of any of them) with 2-3 U.S. players from mid and low majors on each team. Most of those U.S. players weren't even the best players from those college teams. So what level is this basketball?

KK Zlatibor competes in the Basketball League of Serbia, as well as the ABA League 2. Here are the rosters of the teams in the Basketball League of Serbia: List of current Basketball League of Serbia team rosters - Wikipedia

Not a lot of U.S. players on the rosters, What is the level of basketball in this league?

I'm not trying to say Paunovic isn't good enough to play a meaningful role at UConn because I just don't know. But I don't think you can look at the facts and say he will be playing a meaningful role this coming season. So 611's take is a little out there. We'll see. If he's wrong he'll probably delete this new account and come back with a new name. Lol

We had a friend who was a professional basketball ref and he would get us good seats at Pionirska Hala/Pioneers Hall. Red Star/Crvena Zvezda usually played there. I think it held 9-10,000, but don't quote me on that.

ABA is like the 8th best league in Europe, ABA 2 probably 20th, and KLS not in the picture at all. Given Paunovic played 20 minutes a game in 24/25 ABA 2 season and averaged 5.5 ppg/1.7 rbds/1.8 asts, he clearly wasn't lighting it up when playing at the higher level. But grown men...

I guess everyone is just ignoring this huh
nah we just drifted to the cut line which is easier in a single list format.

But to do a depth chart in basketball it cannot add up to 15.

Point Guard: Silas Demary Jr, Malachi Smith, Alec Millender, Rrezon Elezaj, Jacob Furphy
Shooting Guard: Solo Ball, Braylon Mullins, Jacob Furphy
Small Forward: Jaylin Stewart, Braylon Mullins, Jayden Ross, Jacob Furphy, Jacob Ross
Power Forward: Alex Karaban, Jaylin Stewart, Dwayne Koroma
Center: Tarris Reed Jr, Eric Reibe, Dwayne Koroma, Uros Paunovic

This is a total guess and sure to change but gives us the likely starting 5 at least to start the season.

You have Uros and Rrezon switched.

I give Furphy a much better chance of playing more meaningful minutes and having more assists than Paunovic, whatever position he is assigned.
