In spite of our recent struggles (including underwhelming wins), we remain # 2 in the important NET ranking, which the Selection Committee gives quite a bit of weight to. Also, with the close loss to UCONN, Creighton improves from 26 to 24. The Nova game Saturday is important to win to stay # 2; and a #1 seed in the Tournament Regional sites.

Do the conference tournaments get factored into the NET rankings or is it just regular season that the committee uses? The BET is not going to be a cakewalk this year as there are three legitimate threats that could take us out: Creighton, Marquette, and Villanova.

Hmmm. Is it "important" to seeding? Well yeah, every game is. However, I don't consider it "critical."

First, a loss would be to a the school that is 10th ranked in NET. Losses to top 10 teams have little effect on NET rankings. Would/Could UConn drop from Number Two? Possibly, but they won't drop three spots.

And, let's face it: Even if they were to drop three spots to number 5, it doesn't really matter. As others have pointed, there is almost no difference in number 4 and number 5 because they theoretically have to play each other in the elite 8 to get to the final four.

A loss to Villanova would probably make the next game up critical

Yes, conference tournament results are considered.

4 or 5 would be terrible if you don't want SC before the championship game. At this point though the team really needs to find a way to get their legs back before the tournament.

If you think you have a championship quality team then you shouldn't need to finagle the matchups. I am confident that Geno knows this is one of those teams if Fudd returns.
Most teams' rosters shrink by the S16 to 7 or 8 and I think UConn has the best 7 players if Fudd gets back.

Agree.

How long does it take for Fudd to knock the rust off? How long to regain in game conditioning?

If she returns late in the conference tournament I would wonder about both of these issues.

Right now I think the Huskies have a real difficult time making it out of the second weekend of the big dance.

Considering we have 4 games left in February and the BET begins March 4 and we should have a bye that give Azzi time to get healthy. Then we play our first round against a lower ranked team before we play two games against good competition. Then about a week off til the first 2 rounds of the NCAAs at Gampel then another week to play in either SC or Spokane. If Azzi needs time there is time. Im sure Geno is hoping to have her ready for the BET so that gives her up to 15 days before our first BET game. I hope I got that right.

Great point. No need to finagle about seeding or matchups. If you got a championship quality team and confident in their ability, you don't care where they place you. You want all the smoke. That way it removes all doubt.

If Azzi plays any regular season games, I believe that it will be the Senior night game against Xavier. That will give her some time off between the regular season and the BET to access where she is health wise.

If the question is having Fudd play in the NCAA's, even without all the normal conditioning, or not play, I know the answer.

It's always hard work in the 2nd weekend. I remember Dayton. I remember Baylor. I remember NCSt. UConn faced a lot of difficulty.
How long did it take Bueckers to regain conditioning? She came back right in the last few games, played 15 one game and went as far as needed after that. I think she showed her conditioning in the E8 OT. She doesn't have to play long minutes. But with her back Geno can keep two excellent outside shooters on the court most of the game. Lately it's been Senechal and no one else.
