Are these NET quads or RPI quads?

Well, Nolan Warrens NET znitty gritty shows Michigan St with a Quad 3 loss ( which I penalize pretty heavily in my personal Quad thinking)
I wrote Quad 2, but meant Quad 3. Now fixed.

Kentucky, Louisville and Baylor are interesting cases.
Well, as Meatloaf so famously sang “Two out of three ain’t bad” Yes on Louisville (they beat a great triumvirate of ND, Tenn and UNC!) and Kentucky. Baylor? No way can I think they are an interesting case…

Hold on, maybe you were right the first time. Warren Nolan is not a site I spend a lot of time at so maybe I'm misreading, but it looks to me like the loss to Wisconsin is categorized as a quad 2 loss using NET, while a quad 3 loss using RPI. Like visitingcock, I would penalize a quad three loss quite a bit, But I found it intriguing to look into how a team could have 17 wins and their only loss be a quad three loss.

Wisconsin is 87 in RPI while number 80 in NET, so it just barely qualifies as a quad 2 loss in NET but is a quad 3loss in RPI.

I have a lot of disdain for RPI, which only becomes was I decent near the end of the season and we aren't there yet so at I don't put a lot of stock in labeling this a quad three loss. It is, admittedly, borderline required to so I want to look into a little more as it seems like an anomaly

I note that Wisconsin displaying Oregon on Sunday, where they are likely to lose and that may drop them below NET rating of 80 so maybe it will be moot by Sunday evening.

I see four things about the Michigan State game at Wisconsin worth noting:
1. It was their first Big Ten matchup of the year after feasting on cupcakes in the early part of the season
2. VanSlooten, their leading scorer at 15 points per game, played only in its and scored six points
3. Hallock, who averages 11 points per game, did not play
4. Wisconsin was 47% from the field, their best in a B1G game

None of these quite qualify as "aha that explains everything!"

I think they were not quite ready for the level of competition and things spiraled and they performed poorly. Stuff happens.
I've been thinking that maybe Michigan State is little better than the AP voters think, but there early cupcake schedule is giving me pause. Maybe it's as simple as a team that's getting better, because I'm struggling to understand how it can be that a team that can beat Nebraska, Oregon, Washington and Illinois can lose to Wisconsin.

We will know a lot more Sunday when they take on Iowa. They will probably lose but we can look at the margin of victory and figure out whether they are more like the team that lost to Wisconsin more like the team that's won their last four games against decent competition.

Huh? What on earth do you think “interesting” means? Whatever.

Both warrennolan and the ncaa site have it as a quad 3 loss.

So was the Villanova game quad 1 or 2?
Villanova is ranked number 35 in NET so solidly quad 2. (Obviously with respect to UConn; from the point of view of Villanova, they have a quad 1 loss)

Looking at these games......😀😀

So if Villanova remains consistent, the away match up would be quad 1.

Wisconsin has been recently upgraded to a quad 2, so you are correct.

How I rank teams ( usually at the conference halfway time and thereafter) using Quads. UConn is probably an exception this year based on the good ol eyeball test. They may pick up some quad 1 wins on the road in conference, but most will be quad 2s and threes. I don’t ignore quad 2 wins and losses. I do ignore quad 3 and 4 wins

quad 1 wins = 2 points
Quad 1 losses= -1 point

Quad 2 wins = 1 point
quad 2 losses = -2 points

Quad 3 & 4 wins = 0 points
quad 3 losses = -3 points
Quad 4 losses = - 4 points

Notre Dame is at UConn, the game is in Gampel.

Interestingly Iowa State at Oklahoma State would qualify as a quad one win if Iowa State had won, but Oklahoma State beat Iowa State and it's a quad 2 win

Mississippi State upsets Kentucky, and gets a quad 1 win (and the head coaches kids get some big reward), but if Kentucky had won it would have qualified as a quad 2 win.

This is to graphically show the Quads of the Huskies’ opponents. ND is still Quad 1 (I’m not predicting a win, mojo gods, just showing ND is a Quad 1 team). The blue highlighting of Tennessee, Providence, and Georgetown show future games

Note a Quad 1 game isn't necessarily a Quad 1 tomorrow. Or a week from now. And vice versa. Since everyone's rankings are constantly changing, the Quads are as well.

MichSt initially had a Quad 3 loss to Wisconsin. But the Badgers have moved up, so it's now only a Quad 2 loss.

And for Husky fans: if UConn stays unbeaten, this will be irrelevant. An undefeated UConn would be the overall 1, without question.
