Pal is right. it was a poorly played possession.

That being said, there were times when i thought we had no business being in that game. The kids certainly did play hard. And the officiating was pretty awful as well.

Which shot is tougher, a shot over a guy 5'10 or 7'? Hmmm...no . So Wolf is supposed to leave his guy to guard Cadougan or whoever gets the ball. He just hand him the ball and say shoot. He hit a semi-fadeaway chuck from 30 ft.

I somewhat agree, I think Giffey actually made the biggest mistake that possession. Still it was a lucky shot from distance.

Again no matter where anyone wants everyone to be our guys gave up a shot I'd give up 1,000X over...........it was not a 25ft "jump shot" it was a 25-28 foot heave, there extra push from his motion.....

At least he should have been more closely guarded so he can't chuck it up in
rhythm. I will say, though. that Cadougan is pretty quick and we had trouble staying with him all game long.

The biggest complaint if there is one is they did not have anyone run him off his direction.....have to run at him, even by him to make him change direction, he was able to keep his look at the basket and although it wa sa throw he was planning it .....someone had to make him veer left or right!!

As much as I hate to say it, the kid deserves credit for hitting a shot he had no business making. Cadougan is not a jump shot shooter, he had Boat in his face, and was maybe five feet behind the arc. Not an easy shot. Their whole team could not throw the ball in the ocean all night.

He should have been fouled as soon as he crossed 1/2 court. Let him shoot 2 FTs and have 2+ secs on clock. While I remain ery optimistic for future, this was simply poor court awareness of situation and poor coaching at a critical time. Simply another example of the OTJ training this year will be all about.

We played it poorly. I love and hate the 3, but when leave a guy open in the closing seconds it's just bad D and hats off to DOOGAN. Why are backing under the basket anyway move up and protect against the 3 and give up the layup

Exactly. A 28 ft "shot" on the move from a kid who shoots 16% from 3. I'll take it. Good for him for making it.

Giffey got lost in no-mans land. Too far away from the inbounder to hinder the pass, yet he let Cadougan get behind him allowing Cadougan to get in rythem and plan how he was going get off his shot. He needed to stay in front to force Cadougan to react to the D.

Have no problem with where Napier was. There's a Marquette guard in the far corner (maybe Vander Blue) who Napier is guarding, and he is in the passing lane. He had to guard against the crosscourt pass as MU came over midcourt. Also, if Giffey went to double the ball, Napier was in position to rotate out to the top of the key and contest a shot from there (which is why you wouldn't want to be right in the guy's shirt in the corner and take yourself totally out of the play).

Wolf wasn't accomplishing anything because his man never even got into the play. The shot was so deep that I doubt he would have been able to do much, but if we had a chance to be more organized, Boat should have come out further and Wolf could have been behind him at the three-point line.

It was a fluke shot plain and simple. I'm more pissed about the refs getting it wrong in OT. It's hard enough to shake off a 30 footer, but to cheat and take away a basket and possession was too much to overcome.

None of that changes the fact we played the possession poorly with many defenders out of position. We needed to put everyone near the three point line. And no one near the basket. It's okay to harass the ball but not at the expense of giving him an open look at the basket. We played the situation incorrectly.

Exactly and I don't think they make that mistake again. This team is still young and learning. Only two player were on the floor during that moment with significant game experience.

Really, it is just Wolf you can argue with. Omar is on his man in the near corner at the 3 point line, Giffey is on the three-point line at the top of the key to take that pass away, Boat is outside the three point line on his man with the ball (but - especially in hindsight - too far off him). Napier is inside the three-point line, but is in the right position to defend the skip pass to the far side/corner (basically two steps off his man). Wolf is standing on the Big East logo in the paint not guarding anyone.
