Pete Sauer, another young guy, died in White Plains a few weeks back - collapsed during a pickup game. Shame.

Sauer played for Stanford back in the day...that Stanford team was the two-seed knocked off by Gonzaga in our West Regional in 1999.

UConn also had its biggest "upset" of the year against Stanford. When UConn played (and won) at Stanford without Rip Hamilton, they were an 11-pt underdog - they were only a 10-pt dog in the title game vs Duke. (Albert Mouring picked up the scoring slack, Ricky hit an assload of free throws and UConn played great defense - won 70-59. Think there was some racial hollering at Khalid in that game as well....not entirely sure my memory is accurate, but pretty sure it is.)

In any event, it's sad to see two guys in their mid-30s falling.

Sad stories all around. I believe the game Khalid was yelled at from the stands was at Pitt.

Pitt only threw bottles at him. Stanford was much more organized and actually issued some sort of apology - a lot of deadbeat dad, fat boy, etc., stuff on signs.

I remember the Stanford game. I live in the Bay Area, and it was racial which wasn't really that surprising to me. They went to the FF with Sauer. Sad thing to hear about either dying at such an early age!

KFree also had a monster game with a big double-double. Albie and Ricky were also great, but Khalid was sensational. Great game.

I was shocked to hear about Reed and Sauer. So young. RIP guys.

When they won at Stanford without RIP, I knew there was something special about that team.

If I remember right, they were also without Voskul. So it really was somethin'!

Jake played.

He missed the previous game against Syracuse.

Right, and that was a home blow-out too, to 'Cuse. If I remember right it was our first loss of the season. Thanks for jogging my memory!
