OT: Need a recommendation - scotch

My husband and I are not scotch drinkers but he has a friend that is. My husband would like to give his friend a nice scotch but isn’t sure what to buy. He’s willing to pay up to $75-80. Any recommendations?

It would help to know if the friend enjoys peaty flavors. A lot of folks love only peated Scotch. Even more don't, which makes buying something from Islay risky.

I might suggest something the friend likely doesn't have in his cabinet - from Japan, Nikka Coffey Grain or Nikka Coffey Malt. Very drinkable and enjoyable even for someone who likes peaty (it's not peaty).

I would recommend Oban 14 or Balvenie 12. For something less well known, the Jura is fantastic

I have this one. I wanted one Scotch in my inventory. This was my choice. No regerts.

I am more of a bourbon guy but got this for my birthday last week and really like it. Not super peaty, just a very nice taste profile.
