NCAA Tourney games

I’m not talking about the ones who left. I’m saying those on the court with HH did not look like ND level players.

They weren’t all panic replacements. Someone decided to invest time, scholarships, and NIL on getting them to South Bend.
Yeah, she didn't have much help.

Not sure how easy it is for and to get transfers in or what they're working with. There was so much turnover that may not have looked attractive either. Don't know.

I thought Duke was really poor in the third quarter. Turnovers on like 5 possessions in a row. Did ucla’s defense really cause those turnovers? Or did Duke just shoot themselves in the foot?

I think dugalic is a problem for every team still in the tournament. She is going to be hard to match up with and opponents should just hope she settles for the 3.

Texas, South Carolina, UConn, any other team that faces UCLA needs to find a way to keep them off the glass.
I really like Dugalic game. She is an Olympian, and 24 turning 25 this calendar year, so I feel she's kind of a pro already. In fairness to her she missed a full year and played injured another, on top of the COVID year. So I'm empathetic. I think she'll get drafted and make a roster. She's a legit 6'4, and can do all the things. It would've been cool to see her healthy on a team where she was the featured post but credit to her for playing the 6th women role.
Quick thing on Duke. I am a fan of Toby Fournier. I actually really like their whole team. They had a great season after such a slow start. I really hope over the next two years Toby improves 15 ft and in. I like her aggression, physicality, using angles. But I think she has to be able to shoot a bit better. Its funny because she's serviceable from 3, but everything else is crashing towards the basket to finish.

It's a shame that we already have two stretch-fours we're likely to protect in Janelle Salaun and Iliana Rupert, because otherwise I think Dugalic would be a great fit for the Valkyries - 3 pt shooting and relentless defense, boxing out, and rebounding. She was my personal MVP yesterday because when she came in in the second half, that's when things turned around for UCLA. They had a couple of neat high-low passes from Laurent to Sienna that were quite effective, but in general I think Dugalic should have played starter minutes against a long, rangy Duke team. She was absolutely the difference maker, and she got a great write-up in the Athletic for it. Gift article link:

Michigan....
Oh No Omg GIF

The amount of physicality SEC teams usually get away with is pretty wild to say the least.
Add a certain folksy, cornpone coach to that sec business and you might as well be playing on an octagonal court.

Texas is by far the most dangerous team for UCONN to face in the tournament. They're demolishing a very good Michigan team while having their 2nd scorer shooting just 2-16 from the floor.

Seems like the refs are swallowing the whistle for the star players. I thought Sarah Strong should have fouled out in the late third or early fourth yesterday and now Booker is just straight up mauling players without a call. I hope Raven gets the same whistle against TCU tonight. 😭🤣

I like her too. In lots of games (not just this season) UCLA lost nothing when she played the 5 and Lauren sat out. I don’t mean to take anything away from Lauren, but I could easily imagine UCLA without her and starting Angela. Similarly, I can imagine Angela starting almost anywhere else in the country and challenging for 1st team AA. That she stayed at UCLA is… interesting.

I wouldn’t worry. TCU’s bigs are skinny. They will crumple against Madina Adhel etc. And Suarez will not be quick enough or strong enough to manage Joyce. The result won’t rest on Raven alone.

This is the least interesting Tourney I can remember since...I don't even know when. One winner away from having a repeat of last year's Final 4. Most of the games have been beat downs. Could've just invited the top 4 seeds and told everybody else to stay home.

Hidalgo also got away with a couple of blatant fouls against Vandy late. No surprise the stars (who all happen to be aggressively handsy defenders) are getting calls to go their way

Sweet 16 had a couple of great games. Besides that it's been a snoozer though. That said, we're shaping up for an epic Final Four. The 3 teams that have advanced all look championship level good IMO.

In both the men’s and women’s tournament… I think one of the semifinal games is the true championship game.

Really, which one? I am anticipating a UCONN/TEXAS final, and I think those 2 would win out if the teams were flip-flopped. I guess we'll see what happens!

Had some good ones in the first couple rounds too including some OT drama.

blowout cities
1) SC 69 40 26 = +135
2) TX 42 42 22 36 = +142
3) CT 38 53 21 18 = +130
4) LA 53 19 24 12 = +108

10th largest MOV for a title team is 156 by UConn 2014. This years winner could top that.

Despite the slow start I expect SC to win by 30+

That has a way of not working out that way when people think that.

For the women's at least, that seems to be totally discrediting Texas if you are suggesting UConn vs. South Carolina (I'm getting ahead of myself) is the real Championship. There is literally nothing about this season that suggests South Carolina is superior to Texas. In fact, Horns beat them 2 out of 3 times this season. They split 2 close games, then a butt whoopin' in the SEC Championship game in the rubber match.

I am suggesting Texas and UCLA is the championship in the women’s game. And Arizona/Michigan is the championship in the men’s game.

But I concede your point. That isn’t how things always work out.

Not following you here. This is a Final Four semi-final match up this Friday.

Whoa, I misread that one! UCLA seems to be the team picked as most vulnerable among the #1 seeds according to most on this board.

The men's bracket, that seems to be the prevailing wisdom, but we'll see. I'd have to do a deep dive to see if my theory is correct or I'm just making stuff up. The one I distinctly remember was a powerhouse showdown in a semifinal between Kansas and Duke, everybody knew that was the real Championship game. Except Louisville cut down the nets that year w/ Never Nervous Pervis Ellison leading the way, a fairly unheralded freshman.

edit--I think NC State's extremely unlikely Championship came after heavyweights Houston and Louisville slugged it out in a semifinal, that again everybody knew was the "real' Championship
