This is what saving face looks like?

I think the best conference I ever saw was the 2011 Big East. It got 11 bids and its 9-seed won the national championship. How did that conference perform? I still think this is the best conference I ever saw.

1 (1 seed) Pitt: lost in Second Round to Butler
2 (2 seed) Notre Dame: lost in Second Round to Florida State
3 (4 seed) Louisville: lost in First Round to Morehead State
4 (3 seed) Syracuse: lost in Second Round to Marquette
5 (6 seed) St. John's: lost in First Round to Gonzaga
6 (5 seed) West Virginia: lost in Second Round to Kentucky
7 (6 seed) Cincinnati: lost in Second Round to UConn
8 (6 seed) Georgetown: lost in First Round to VCU
9 (3 seed) UConn: won National Championship
10 (9 seed) Villanova: lost in First Round to George Mason
11 (11 seed) Marquette: lost in Sweet 16 to UNC
Forgot how putrid the rest of the league did that tournament. Maybe the league wasn’t as good as you thought

I really like Dain Dainja on Memphis. This guy barely played for Illinois last year. There is a lot of talent out there that coaches just do not recognize or appreciate.

Or, and hear me out, given that it's prone to somewhat random outcomes, perhaps a single game eliminate tournament isn't the best way to judge the strength of a conference.

We are not talking about a single game though. The SEC is going to play 14 games in the first four and first round alone.

And this is more true just about every year (except for the UConn games the last couple).

Fun to hear Jay Wright put Seth Davis in his place.
Davis went on a mini rant about hurleys attitude and the weakness of our team.

Wright: oooh some words from the media guy. Dan Hurley is a stellar coach, a great dude, and the team is better than you think.
Seth Davis is a dork who has always reached and sought out any little thing he could find to criticize or belittle the Huskies. Glad to hear Jay Wright put him down.

Khaman Maluach sounds like a name I'd come up with instantly, under duress, if I was 15 and the police demanded to know my name after grabbing me coming out of a bar.

If I recall he was one of the few Illini who had a decent game against us (albeit mostly in garbage time).

Could have been fifteen but mighty Texas didn't make the first round............

What is the benefit of playing Flagg against a 16 seed?

Got a link?

Seth Davis the biggest know nothing in the business.

Jay Wright is way too good for that crew.

Did anyone else question how much dicking around the refs did with the clock at the end of the game?

I watched the in-bounds play with 1.1 seconds left a half dozen times and still can't understand how the Baylor guy could make the catch and the MSSt. guy was able to go around another Baylor guy to get to him in 0.6 seconds.

Baylor easily ran over a second off the clock before the defender got to him.

Then they give them time on the clock after the missed FT saying MSSt. called time out as the ball was caught. They took off 0.3 seconds.

SEC refs?

Thank god Grant Nelson’s knee turned out to be ok or they woulda lost to Robert morris and blown this region wide open for Duke. I don’t care who wins it all as long as it ain’t Duke. I want to enjoy having more chips than them for more than 1 year.

Still plenty of time left but a shame that Penny has his best team while at Memphis and one of his best players goes down in the AAC tourney
Why is that a shame? No love lost for Hardaway, Memphis, or the AAC

Playing from behind has Memphis playing all frantic and rushed
