NBC Sports: KO Hands Down BE COY

Since UConn won't be playing in the Big East Tournament what happens if a UConn player or coach wins an award? Will they just not be there to receive it? Or do the individuals get invited to the awards dinner and the rest of team stays home?

Can't stand Buzz but I gotta give him props for losing DJO and Crowder and still being in 1st place as of now. That Cadougan 3 is still haunting us.
 
Slowly but surely the media coverage of the apr debacle is beginning to even out.

Eventually someone besides jay bilas will have the balls to say what everyone knows.

The academic progress report does not measure academic progress.

Retroactive enforcement is unacceptable.

Punishing current players for the sins of those who are long gone is not logical.

Emmert abused his authority to settle a score with his former employer.

i mena thats not even a fair deal. ko runs with our team daily in practice and actually was a good player to boot.
 
I hope that 20 years from now when Ollie is 60, still our coach, and sitting on top of lots of hardware that people are reminiscing about how he used to run with the team in practice every day.

But knowing the type of guy he is, he'll probably still be balling with them
 
Buzz has done a real nice job with a team of overachievers it would seem. Not overly talented...not a fan of his but give him his due!

But KO has been better.............

This is the greatest injustice that has been visited upon on us and needs to be shouted to the heavens.

We might feel this way, but how else can you punish college programs? Using this argument costs us a ton of credibility and makes us sound like whiners, which severely undermines what should be the only point of contention, above.

Also certainly true, and maybe with the Miami fiasco the media will turn a more critical eye on the NCAA and its leadership.

No, the media will never turn a more critical eye on the NCAA. Most of them are paid henchmen.
 
Yeah, as mentioned the "punishing current players" aspect doesn't hold water. Otherwise no punishment is possible in college.
It's the retroactive part. They changed the rules halfway through. That should have been the school's top -- maybe only -- argument from the beginning.

The way I understand it is that the coaches get together and vote there. I'd love to see KO just say "screw you all. You don't want us in the tournament, I'm not going." If they have the balls to not vote for him for not being there, one more log on the fire. The Big East is already dead and buried and have treated this program like a horse with three broken legs, what is there to lose?
 
Anyone know how much Ollie thinks about things like advanced stats? Seems to be utilizing the corner three a lot more than the past few years. He also seems to be switching defenses mid-possession a lot more.

He does need to work on Boatright splitting or getting around the double team.

But wasn't that what the first punishment was all about. We lost two scholarships. That is punishing the school without punishing the current players. Then we get punished for the crimes of the same group again, but this time they take it out on the team. (most likely because JC got Drummond as a walk on and Emmert needed as way to stick it to us). So they had a fair way to punish the school and decided that wasn't good enough of a deterrent, so the decided to punish the current students too.
 
Wouldn't be surprised if they give it to Buzz Williams, John Thompson, or Jim Boeheim.

The way they ALREADY punished the program: restricting the team's recruiting/scholarships. That punishes the coach and program, not the students on the team.

I almost choked when I saw the line in that article about the APR FROM FOUR YEARS AGO being responsible for this team being ineligible. That is disgusting. I knew it, but to see it in print like that just drove it home.

That's part of the retroactive punishment issue. When they changed the rule to enact the ban, the APR scores for which we were being punished had already been obtained!

And then they deliberately chose to avoid using the most recent available scores!
 
What's sad is that a lot of people still don't know. Most fans are casual fans. My dentist is a St. John's alum, and when I had my teeth done we were talking about the season. He commented, "aren't they banned for recruiting violations?" When I explained the situation, he was offended and upset--and he doesn't like UConn.

What will annoy me is that everyone will figure out this is a sham, and UConn will be the only school so punished. Not that I want other schools punished necessarily (no good in rooting for injustices), but it would just frustrate me to high heaven when all of a sudden people realize it's bad right before UNC or UK is banned.

If there is some change in policy such that other high-profile schools avoid a postseason ban for the exact same infraction we had, then we have to start believing every anti-UConn conspiracy theory out there.
Not sure my disgust with the NCAA could get any worse, but that would do it.
