NBA Slam Dunk Contest

Peeps coming to Steph’s defense around McClung not being in the NBA. That of which I kinda get, as where do you then draw the line? Why not bring in some Olympic high jumpers..

I'm seeing it a lot on nba message boards. Like I had said previously the NBA put themselves in this predicament, bringing in guys like Mcclung to bring the dunk contest back and it is has brought some interest back, now the pendulum has swung the other way where Mcclung has a predetermined outcome against NBA players.

LeBron ruined the dunk contest by not participating in it as a rookie, then no other upcoming stars wanted to do it so it had a ripple effect. It was always a rite of passage for a young star to do it then they were done with it and the torch got passed to another young star.

Doesn't the guy have like 5 career NBA games in 3 1/2 seasons?
The guy tripled his G league salary with that win. He had a ton of financial incentive to bring KIAs and his cirque de soleil partners out, and to put on a show. Meanwhile Steph is focused on winning NBA games and getting better.

In some ways I get it, in other ways it kinda infringes on the integrity of the contest. Well explained by Scoe.

Exactly. Really proud of the showing Steph is putting on this All Star weekend regardless.

As a future star in this league he has been taking it serious and bringing some of the feeling back.

He could’ve folded under the pressure of the dunk contest but he put on a show.

Yeah I’m feeling major hater energy for Mac right now, maybe it’s from the loss today. The constant glazing from the announcers was nauseating, you would think the NBA gave them a directive to hype him up for the viewers.

Gotta give Mac credit for figuring out nobody dings you points for staging the ball in the perfect spot for your dunk. He gets max vertical on every attempt because he takes all the timing/reaction time factors away that make other dunks, like castles, harder to pull off.

I mean seriously on the spinner dunk the second ball was literally placed on the rim, there should be some kinda rule where they can’t have the ball staged that close.

The car dunk he didn’t even clear it, kinda takes away from it if you’re being objective. The still shot of him in the air is incredible though.

Steph’s between the legs dunk was the best of the contest, in real time it looked impossible.

Woulda loved to see if castle had anything planned for a third round, you know Mac probably did.
This is such a good point. Every single dunk involved him getting the ball off someone who was already holding it for him.

No alleys, no going up himself, everything was right in his catcher spot to take it from there.

It takes away any margin for error that would come with an alley oop or going up by himself. Steph’s between the legs after it goes through the rim was the hardest dunk of the night because he actually had to time it perfectly and catch it.

Ha Draymond Green in the pregame just repeated my 2nd paragraph almost word for word.

.-.
I don’t care about the dunk contest, but to the extent I do, no one is going to beat McClung until they adopt his habit of using a basketball perched on someone’s head as a pommel horse to go a lot higher than he’s able to without it.

Also, who gets the job of putting him on an NBA roster for five minutes next year so he can enter the contest again?

The "Chambers boost" phenomenon. A great Thinking Basketball video heavily featuring Andre's dunk (and discussing McClung).

Well good weekend for Castle but this is such a trash product NBA is trying really hard to coverage it up with NBA legends and musicans snd celebrities, they are really trying to drag up the airtime.

They made the entire weekend about Oakland even though the Warriors ditched Oakland. It's actually pathetic.

McClung is right there with Jordan, Vince, Nique, Aaron Gordon and LaVine.

When you realize he's 6'1.25 barefoot he's even more freakish.

I really wish the NBA would give him a real chance as a player, dude can play.
What the hell are you drinking this weekend? McClung deserves a real chance? He went undrafted and hasn’t had a real snif in 4 years. Once again, my guess is the gm’s know more than you. As does Hurley yesterday.

It was an amazing coaching performance by Hurley yesterday. Never seen the final minute of a game coached like that before.
