NBA Playoffs

Would it be less of a hot take to say you don't win in today's NBA with primary ball-handlers who can't make a shot outside of five feet?

First off, let me congratulate you on what might be the least wordy and needlessly long post you've ever made ok here...

That being said, you're right. The last 3 years have proved that, in today's NBA, you can't win without having your primary ball handlers be great shooters - wait, what's this? Draymond Green has been one of the primary ball handlers for the team that's won 2 of the last 3 titles? And he's not a knockdown shooter? Hmm, could it be that stockpiling unique, generational talent probably trumps "you can't win in 'today's NBA' with primary ball handlers that can't shoot"?

He's got Dray and Steph and KD to create. But he can and has created points for himself in ways JJ never could. Again, look at the years where KD wasn't there. He doesn't have to do it, but he has. He's super efficient, but that doesn't mean he can't create for himself. Dude has developed post moves.

The bolded part is also a "fact," if you change it to per 36 minutes.

Last 4 years

Klay: 21.6 ppg, 2.4 apg, 3.2 rpg on 47/43/87 splits
JJ: 16.2 ppg, 1.9 apg, 2.2 rpg on 46/44/90 splits

If you're looking at actual production, JJ gives you 75% of Klay's scoring, 80% of his assists, and 68% of his rebounds.

There's a reason he plays fewer minutes than Klay.

I have acknowledged that adjusting for production on a per minute basis tends to favor the inferior player. I also think it goes without saying that Redick isn't going to be as productive as Klay when he isn't playing. To the extent that he plays less minutes than Klay is a function of both his defense and his age, neither of which have anything to do with the topic at hand.

It's possible that Klay would grow his game in an expanded role. We can't know that because we haven't seen it. Players who create their own offense typically average more than two assists and get to the line more than twice per game. There is a reason his career 2P% is identical to Redick's and there is a reason the Cavs won the title two years ago. Golden State's offense features a lot of built in movement that plays to Klay's strengths. He shouldn't be penalized for that and neither should Redick.

Hard to believe this is the hill you chose to die on. You might as well compare Kelly Olynyk to Tim Duncan while you're at it.

Kawhi makes something like 3 times as much as Simmons though. Don’t the contracts have to come close to the same?
It's a moot point because there's 0 chance Philly is moving Ben Simmons this summer. But Philly has a ton of cap space so contracts wouldn't have to be similar, they could afford Kawhi in that scenario

Philly can still make a heck of an offer for Leonard without Simmons in it.

Fultz and the lakers pick alone is better than most teams can offer....outside of the not happening deals like a harden.

They'd be dumb to trade Simmons. Embiid, Simons, Saric, Covington, is a good core. If they believe in Fultz, he's still talented as hell. I'm rooting for the kid. If not, he's a good trade chip. Regardless, they have cap space, and the Philly fans deserve something for what they've had to put up with.

Anyone not named Simmons or embiid has to be in play for Leonard.

Can't win with him in today's NBA bro.

That's not a good argument either.

So if I say something incredibly stupid like "grass is purple and the sky is green" and nobody cares enough to waste their time arguing such a ridiculous statement, does that make me right?

Nobody is presenting you a "good argument" simply because you don't deserve one.

Fast forward to next year at this time:

"Hey remember when champs99and04 said the Sixers should trade Simmons that was pretty stupid he's damn near averaging a triple double"

"Not nearly as stupid as the time when he said LeBron would mail it in against the Pacers in game 7."

"I had forgotten about that. And he uses so many words to be so wrong. I had almost forgotten about the time when he said J.J. Redick was as good as Klay Thompson."

"LOL how many titles has Klay won now?"

That's a goodly amount of incorrectness jammed into a pretty short timeframe. Well played. Condensed wrongdensation....

Ouch, you really put me in my place with your false analogy. Call the burn unit?

The reason no one is presenting me with good argument against Malone is more likely because there isn't one. Duncan may very well be the best power forward of all-time, but Malone is, without question, in the conversation and the numbers back it up.

Be that as it may, this will be my last post in this thread regarding Malone or Duncan. Neither are in the 2018 Playoffs.

Back to the actual NBA playoffs, who do you guys have being the cannon fodder for the West champ, Boston or Cleveland?

Question 2, can the Rockets beat GS? I think they have a shot. I think both series are about 50-50.

I don't think HOU has much of a chance because they're going to try to beat GSW at their own game and GSW simply does it better. I think it should be a close and entertaining series though (we're gonna need it after the conference semis). I'll say GSW in six.

I don’t think so either now that we are two series in. Some of it comes down to D’Antoni’s system which doesn’t deviate much from just outscoring the opponent and reliance on 3s

-I disagree that Houston tries to be GSW. GSW is about player and ball movement, and they actually don’t rely on the 3 as much as people claim; they’re a middling team as far as attempts go, and just happen to be best with making their attempts-

And another part is Harden’s reliance on getting to the line for his points. Dude lived at the line all season but he won’t be getting the calls and thus FT attempts in the playoffs.

Capella is gonna have to bring his A game like he has against Stifle Tower (who, can we all just agree, has the best nickname in all of sports)?
