Not necessarily, hopefully the Bulls sign him to an NBA contract but they can rescind the qualifying offer at any point if they don't agree to a new contract. So there's still a chance they just want him back on a new 2 way contract

The qualifying offer is binding as a one-year contract. If the player signs it, he’s under contract for next season. He could also sign an offer sheet from another team (which his team would have the ability to match), and he and his team could agree on a new, multi-year contract. The team also has the ability to rescind the qualifying offer going forward (the list below is as of June 29.)

Other teams might be interested in signing him but know the Bulls can match so they don't offer or don't want to beat the Bulls offer. And then later this summer the Bulls just pull the offer and leave the player high and dry even though he could have had other offers earlier? Doesn't make sense.

I think once he agrees to it, it can’t be rescinded. Just that they can offer it then rescind it if he doesn’t agree.
I could be wrong, though.

It affects the cap situation. The money on the qualifying offer is held against the cap even if it hasn't been signed. So a team can rescind it to free up cap space so that they can sign another player? It's no different than any other contract, any time you sign a contract it's binding. I get that part of it. But what's the point of the qualifying offer? Seems very team friendly if they can rescind the offer. There must be an outside date when the team has to rescind the offer by or else it's binding. You can't keep the player under control and in limbo forever.

From what I can tell, qualifying offers for two way players are still a two way contract, but there's optimism Sanogo can negotiate a real contract to be the Bulls backup C.

It is team friendly, that's the point of the qualifying offer. Gives the team control over the player in the early years of their career. Offer has to be rescinded by October 1, though it'll almost always be resolved before then

I mean, not really. They can take that option away at any point by signing the qualifying offer. The reality is for the guys in this situation is all of their options are non guaranteed deals and they'll always be a part of salary cap maneuvering games

I wonder what the dynamic is between AD and Embiid...they where pretty chippy earlier in their careers playing against each other

He was the backup to Embiid for half of 2021-22 so guessing it'll be fine if both sides decided to go down that path again.
Should still be minutes available for Hawkins since Dyson Daniels was sent out in the Murray trade and Ingram will be gone in the next few days. Hopefully it's not a guard coming back in that deal

Sounds like it might be the Kings which wouldn't be great for Hawkins. Have to assume that deal has Barnes and Huerter coming back to match salaries and Huerter gives you a lot of what Hawkins does. At least for right now

He was such a team player for UConn, could have gone to another place and showcased all of his skills more, but instead he played into a system and won. I think that was one of the reasons the Spurs were drawn to him, but he deserves all this.
