NBA first round

It's interesting because Thibs just got a 3 year deal last summer and most people thought he totally deserved it. NYK haven't really underperformed this year (assuming they finish off Detroit). They're just not the same level as Boston and Cleveland. For the record I am a Celtics fan but I am UConn first and foremost. I would be happy with NYK beating Boston if it meant job security for Thibs.
I’m happy for whatever result happens to give best chances of keeping Hurley. The other possible consideration is that Hurley would not take right now, but if Thibs punted in 3 years, Hurley might. Hmmmmm.

I think the Knicks are likely behind Indy too. Their record against good competition this year was really bad.

I brought this up a couple months back - I don’t think the Knicks have to lose this round for Thibs to get punted. I think if they skate by here and then get run by the Celts, he’s still out.

And yes, I think Hurley will get a call.
Prior to the start of the Detroit series I thought the Celtics would beat the Knicks in five, with two of the Knick losses being very competitive games. Now I doubt the Knicks can play a competitive half against the Celtics.

Terrific 1st round

Find this hard to believe. I definitely like college better than NBA, and I support hometown pro teams, Pacers/Colts…I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that multiple NBA playoff games of Pacers/Bucks series were blacked out. The word “joke” isn’t sufficient enough

The popularity of the NBA is enormous
It’s audience is generally not the same as those who watch college basketball

I will start by saying I am a Knicks fan, so that impacts how much I watch. I watched last year until the Knicks succumbed to their injuries and lost in the second round. But even last year compared to this year has been different.

The amount of physicality being allowed and the defensive intensity is up a notch from last year. I am not certain they could play like this for 82 games, there would be too many injuries.

You basically have to get laid out to get a foul called when you take it to the basket. But the product is 100% better imo during the playoffs than it is in the regular season.

I guess that’s what happens when every player is going at 100%. NBA players are the greatest athletes in the world and watching these huge human beings getting into each other full aggression and seeing what they are capable of has to be appreciated.

Still love the college game more but the NBA playoffs are worth watching. Perhaps they should shorten the season and make the games more important, I don’t know what the answer is but no other sport is as different during the playoffs compared to the regular season than the NBA.

Is cam Spencer’s bro on the warriors? If not then he’s a doppelgänger. He just got ejected after a double T so the fire runs in the family.

Cams big brother a feisty lil one, just got tossed for head butting the rockets center :)

I agree the product is much better in the playoffs than the regular season and I love that they're letting them play more but it was still much more physical in the 90's and the players rarely missed games.

I was thinking about that, it’s a good point. When Oakley and the Davis brothers played against each it had to be as physical or more physical. I watched those games every minute of them but could not figure out why I was thinking this seemed more physical to me.

I really think it is picture quality and just overall better camera angles now than then, so we are seeing more because we can see more.

The ref actually ejected Cam Spencer lol. The announcers corrected the error immediately, and it elicited a smile from Pat.

Somewhere Cam was watching on his couch, bemused.

Btw, it was a weak ejection.

A few years ago Gobert was unplayable in the playoffs, now he's putting up 27 and 21 in a possible series clincher

Shaq was over the top ripping him at halftime.

That was not a good game. Ant Edwards wouldn't drive the whole game despite the Lakers being slow as s^^^ and having no rim protection. Lebron, Luka and the Lake show were listless.

Bummer for me. Wolves were simply better. Luka needs to lose 20+ in the offseason if the Lakers have a chance. They also need a Center that actually knows how to play basketball.

I get that this was a fun year for Lakers fans and probably good for business, but from LeBron's standpoint I'm not sure it could have been more of a bleep show. Not only was the team built around Davis, but so was the whole final act of his career. He was one of maybe a couple guys in the league capable of covering for LeBron's decline defensively (and on the glass) and still allowing him to be the headliner on the other end. Luka is the opposite of that. The Mark Williams trade being rescinded was just the cherry on top.

I have my doubts about whether LeBron will want to play for Pelinka and Redick again after the way they ran him into the ground in this series. They basically punted his entire blueprint for the season out the window and asked him to be 2012 LeBron.

It's a good thing they now have his son as a hostage, otherwise I'd worry he might start looking at other options.

Is this Luka and JJ’s fault? Different coaches and players every year, same result.

LeBron’s 4th quarter stats are
Awkward Jay Z GIF by Complex

I'm laughing at all the Lakers fans on Reddit who cheered our 2nd round exit from the tournament. Karma is a b*tch!

There’s no way he could’ve fixed the mess there

That's it blame everyone else.

What's stunning about the Lakers is just how bad the Wolves were last night. 40 missed threes, Missed layups, missed freethrows all over the place, and somehow it just didn't matter. The Lakers let a guy who refuses to jump get how many boards and baskets? The Wolves were so bad last night. If they shot a normal percentage, they win by 50 or more. No idea how they win playing that poorly.
