NBA all-star weekend

I think there's a lot of revisionist history about how hard guys from previous generations played in the all-star game. No one's taken that game seriously since the late 90s at least. The real reason it's unwatchable now is that the mid-range game is dead.

I will say this is leading to an uptick in competitive play but I really don't want to see non-All Stars in this setting

Why is Donovan Mitchell playing for the global team?
Had to look it up - mom is Panamanian.

KAT somehow has DR citizenship although grew up in Jerz.

Talk about loosely “global”

Steph Castle is the epitome of UConn. He and his family saw firsthand what UConn was about on his official. Nil didn’t matter. False promises didn’t matter. Role didn’t matter. Playing time did t matter. He came here, was coached hard, never put his head down, won a natty, and will be an nba superstar. This story at Uconn is not unique. It’s what we are about.

There was selective defense but still awful. I mean the last play at least try to play some D and get back and challenge Tatum. I think both NFL(Flag football game and not even good one) or NBA( just a bunch of 3s and a few dunks with no D) need to end. It isn't worth watching anymore.

No offense to the dude and the rest of the "rising stars" but this sums it up. What a mess of a production that was.

I'm going to start following the NHL.
The fights were awesome. I loved it and want more of it.

Castle is going to be a star sooner than later

The league is kind of a mess now. It's just not a good product and with Lebron, Curry, Durant etc. near the end of the road I think it's going to get worse. There will always be great players coming up but the younger crop of stars don't seem like they'll move the needle like past stars.

The NBA should try doing what the NHL is doing in regards to a new All Star format. The 4 Nations Face-Off is very competitive with teams from Canada, Finland, Sweden and USA. USA beat Finland soundly and then they beat Canada on Saturday night. Good action.

Totally agree with you. Both the UConn Men's and Women's basketball teams seem to recruit high character players. This is not a slight against the other teams but I just know more about the basketball players since roster size is much smaller.

Loved watching the rookies play hard and try to get a win.

Kevin Hart was awful.

40 minutes of basketball over 3 hours is not winning programming...

He’s not wrong
Yes he is. Boring?

people hate the 3. So what is alternative? We want mid range jump shots and iso ball?

I have seen some awful hoops games back in the day. Celtics shoot 50 3s a game and pass the ball beautifully. Cavs and okc are stellar.

nba has already changed from last year. Teams are starting to go bigger at the 4 for defensive reasons and sacrificing spacing.
cavs, okc play stifling defense.

I hear this a lot. You really think 20 foot jumper brings people back? It’s a dumb shot. i don’t want guys taking contested mid range shots.

talking about how great previous hoops were and then we get an 83-81 game nba finals game 7 and train wreck. Do we remember pistons spurs and pistons lakers?

look at nba style for Tim Duncan and the midrange jumper off the backboard. I can’t think of one great spurs moment other than ray Allen hitting the game 6 tying shot.

issue with nba is load management And effort of star players. Not style of play.

I think you could argue Jokic/Shai/Wemby/Luka/Tatum need the old guard to retire so people will shift their attention to the new era. As those 5 win championships, they’ll become household names. People won’t suddenly stop caring about basketball after the legends retire, the new guys will grow their popularity quickly.

The league is doing so well under Silver… I hope he stays another 10 years…

Like I had mentioned earlier LeBron ruined the dunk contest by not participating in it as a rookie and then no else wanted to do it.

Ok the allstar game was still pretty good going into the 2010s yes was high scoring no one is saying they should play like it's the playoffs it's an allstar game after all at least there was some competition.

Kobe as an historian of the game knew right then and there that the allstar game changed forever even Melo knew.

Just go back to East vs West. Also bring back the NBA on NBC and CBS, TNT is good but bring back the old theme music. When you mess with tradition less people will tune in.

It felt like the NBA tried to make Ernie, Kenny, Charles and Shaq the face of the NBA last night. Last night was no coincidence they are desperate.
