Pastrami on Wry in Manchester (East Center St) is one of my favorite places to get a sandwich. Owned by the same guy who runs Catsup & Mustard on Main St and Chops & Catch on Hartford Rd, definitely worth checking out all of the above!
Yeah... Cory went to school with the wife and bro in law.
We usually hit up PoW for breffast once in awhile. I ma in the small minority when it comes to C&M though. Not a fan. They have messed up my burger every time I have gone (10 or so times).

Horrible mistake I just made.

Was thinking ahead to my pending trip to Philly for the UConn/Temple game on the 28th. In scoping out some stuff, I came across the sites for Pat's and for Geno's.
I may die in Philly from food consumption.
Now....naturally I want cheese steak for dinner.

I may die in Philly from food consumption.
Now....naturally I want cheese steak for dinner.

Pat's and Geno's are ok but Tony Lukes has been our go to when we go to games @Temple. That said I think my favorite sandwich in Philly might be the Pork Sandwich at DiNic's in Reading Terminal Market. It was rated as the #1 sandwich in the US by travel channel.

Locally in CT
Wallingford area- Rosa's and Little Italy both had great grinders
Salem/Colchester- Salem Prime Cuts and Westchester Market are both really good

I like to think of myself as a professional sandwich maker. I make sandwiches almost every day for lunch. The ideal sandwich is:

100% toasted whole wheat bread
Spicy dijon mustard
Lettuce
Tomato
Sliced kosher dill pickles (NONE OF THAT BREAD AND BUTTER MADNESS)
Copious amounts of turkey

I've been experimenting with sliced onions and not sure how I feel about it. I love onions but they might be too much.

I think about sandwiches a lot.
Good choice on the bread. Too many sub places only offer white bread. White bread sucks. I actually prefer pita's You can taste the inside ingredients more with out the bread dampening the flavor.

John's Roast Pork isn't too shabby either but Tommy DiNics w/ sharp prov and greens is awesome. Paesano's is right up there for a more italian focused selection - the Arista is the bomb.

Ok screw it....

Need a recommendation on a sub/grinder/hoagie/hero/sammich shop in the Manchester/East Hartford/ South Windsor area for tonight.
I know a few...just looking for more options.
The Red Onion has a chicken parm sandwich that is really good.

Always good for tailgating.

No utensils, hand held and scalable depending on the size of your crowd.

For me, I have to go with the Cuban sandwich. Slow roasted pork, ham, cheese, pickle, deli mustard, & a crunchy baguette toasted as a panini.

Close second is a fried oyster po boy. Unfortunately lots of places screw up the oysters.

If I'm travelling and I have to hit a chain shop, it's Jimmy John's

Cubans from Columbia Restaurant (Ybor City) are good. Tampa has some great Cuban shops...Jimmy John's are great sandwiches...

I scarfed one of these down last night and made another for lunch today. I can't wait for lunch.

Re: the roast pork... It's not something to cook on short notice BUT I was planning on pulled pork anyway for the ECU game. I had two boneless pork butts from Costco (about 15 lbs)... One was seasoned with BBQ rub, the other with salt/pepper/garlic powder for just this scenario... It freezes and reheats very well.

Okay...I'm game.

1a. Sammy the Bull - the Plum Tomato, Colchester (Chicken Bacon, Onion, tomato, gorgonzola, spinach and creamy garlic dressing)
1b. El Capitan - Firehouse BOC, Gales Ferry (see Sammy the Bull. Literally the same ingredients and equally as tasty).
2 Meatball grinder with onions - La Famiglia, Bristol
3. Chicken Parm - Wethersfield Pizza

I've also had tasty sandwiches at Spicy Green Bean in Glastonbury, Nordelli's outside Waterbury and Middletown, and the Windsor Pickle Deli.

At the end of the day (just like pizza), 98% of the time, a Mom and Pop beats a national chain every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I'm fortunate to live close to Kensington Market and Fred's Deli - both great spots for a sandwich if you are in the Berlin area.

I'll say it - I don't get the love for Nardelli's.

Ranking chicken Parms could be its own thread (chicken parm you taste so good)... You could feed a family of 4 for the amount of chicken you get at Wethersfield Pizza. When I worked in Hartford, Cornerstone made a solid one... There's always Franklin Giant... Currently, Kensington Market is close and makes a damn tasty one.

I'll play ... Frigo's Deli in East Longmeadow, MA ... Court House Special - Deluxe Ham, Swiss Cheese & Honey Mustard. If I want to spice it up I add lettuce ... :cool:

I guess because I am picky about bread, I don't like getting a loaf of a nice baguette or ciabatta on sunday and using it for sandwiches - by Wednesday it's stale and no good. So I switched to making salads for lunch and I can't say I miss those sandwiches. But I'll go for a grinder for dinner every once in a while. I wasn't particularly impressed by DiBella's, sorry @CTMike. Your random italian pizza place has grinders just as good, maybe Olde World Apizza on Whitney. I think I went to Ray and Mike's once but don't remember what I got, will have to go again soon.

If we get Rutgers on the schedule again (#ThinkB1G) - Tastee Sub Shop in Edison is where you want to pick up sandwiches for the tailgate.

Kensington Market is great. In Newington try Steve's in the center for big ass grinders. In West Hartford, Hall market for big cheap deli sandwiches (always a line) and Harvest Country Store for fantastic grinders (although they call them submarines).
