And that is what got us into all the trouble with the NCAA. Due to his horrible situation in life, I feel Calhoun and the program went out of his way for the program to get him here, to take care of him (and i do not mean that in any money way). He saw another Caron, and Nate screwed it up with the girl and that was all she wrote.
I am with you that the kid had a terrible life. But let's be realistic, shall we...Calhoun didn't go out of his way for any reason than the fact that Miles had basketball talent. Secondly, while the situation with the woman and violating the protective order certainly didn't help things, most of the problems with Miles' recruitment that came back to haunt UConn occurred well before that incident. And the comparisons with Caron Butler just don't work. By virtually every account, Butler had gotten his life in order before coming to UConn. Miles hadn't. I hope things work out for him. But he was not the kind of guy UConn should have been recruiting. He was not academically or socially prepared for college, especially one like UConn. And it was pretty clear that Calhoun used up lots of capital to get him. It was a huge mistake and one that has had long term implications for the program.

We can't forget that because Nate never played at UConn the school did not get into even more trouble given his recruitment. All this second-guessing is forgetting the recruiting fiasco. I'm not blaming Miles for allowing Nochimson to pay for his surgery. That doesn't seem to be the most egregious thing in the world, if you ask me, especially if it's your foot that needs surgery. Of course you'd want a pro handling it.

Be glad he didn't play a game here. They wouldn't have counted. The second that idiot ex-manager got involved with him we should have walked away. His skill set was exactly what was needed on that team, though.

I don't think that makes any sense. I've blocked most of this from my memory, but it's not as if UConn and Nochimson were working at cross-purposes. Wasn't Moore on the phone with Nochimson re: Miles all the time?
