I just came across a video of him playing in China and looking pretty damn good. I hope he's finally getting his life together and getting that one last chance he so desperately needs. The video is 6 months old though so this could be old news to everyone else.

Many people on this board--who I trust--saw this kid play and thought he was the second-coming. Were sure of a 2008-09 title because of him.

I don't have hard feelings for the kid, and hope he turns his life around.

I'm rooting for the guy, mistakes were made and he had some serious growing up to do but I felt like everyone involved got a rough deal. From what I've read Miles had an extremely rough childhood and has been on his own since he was a young teen. Hope that he has used his tough past as fuel for a better future. His game is smooth as hell.

The kid's had a rough life, I hope it works out for him. UConn, the NCAA and everyone else moved on and this kid's the one who gets left holding the bag.

This thread is begging for a freescooter rant blaming this kid for the demise of UConn basketball.

during his freshman season i had a class that got out right as practice started. i used to grab a seat and watch practice all the time (until they kicked me out). the early preseason scrimmages were the best. basically just back to back pickup games for an hour or so, and you would get the occasional alum joining in from time to time.

anyways...Nate Miles used to DESTROY in those things. he was often the best player on the floor, and there would be games where he would score every single point for his team. this is on our eventual final four team with a senior AJ Price (my favorite UConn player btw), junior Jerome Dyson (my least favorite), our boy Kemba Walker, and a bunch of other great players.

i can say with a completely straight face that I thought he was the best player on that team (definitely him or Price). he really could have been something special (just think of what Kemba achieved and he wasn't anywhere near Miles as a freshman). but i guess that's why intangibles matter so much.

tl;dr Nate Miles was freaking awesome

He's got good size and handle for the NBA but he looks slow and I dont see how he gets that jumpshot off in the NBA(My bet is he doesnt shoot it for a high%) Hes still young--if he works hard--having that type of size(6-6/6-7) and handle is a good foundation if he could transition his game to a 1G.

One thing I found interesting. All the players on the opposing teams were Chinese. His team is all African. What's up with that?

He is a classic example of disparity of kids without positive parental role models.. He counted on an entourage who only had their best interests in mind and his life got destroyed. Obviously everyone is responsible for their own actions but he had a tough life and was easily influenced. One of the heartbreaking stories I hope to see on 30 for 30 one day with a positive ending. Good luck to him

I attended one scrimmage session, which was actually their one 2 hour weekly preseason session when the coaches could work with the whole team, and I can attest that Miles was freaking good. Sucks he never played for UConn and everything that went down.

His shot (and game for that matter) reminds me a lot of Kevin Martin's.

Also, China might have the worst fans in the world. Those people barely even react.

Maybe the fans weren't happy to see their boys getting school by the" Afro Americans". Those teams needed alittle diversification.

Wasn't there something about a tell all interview during our 2011 run? I kind of lost whatever interest i had left in him then. His jumpshot looks interesting really feathery almost no power from the legs. I think he could get his shot off in a catch and shoot situation in the nba but he looks pretty non-athletic at least in the video, he would look like molasses playing against nba players.

I was with Hooper that day and Miles was hands down the best player on the floor. If my memory serves me, a loose ball came our way that AJ Price tracked down. We asked him what he thought of Miles. I can't remember exactly what he said, but it was something on the lines of Nate was real good and he couldn't wait to play along side him.

Interestingly, that would be the last time anyone would see him play hoops at UConn. That evening everything went south for him.

I didn't watch the video, but when we saw him he was smooth, great handle and quick release and he rarely missed. He was scoring from all over the floor, deep and at the rim. It's too bad we never got to see him play. I hope he's found his way on some sort of team that's paying him for his talents. More so, I hope he's turned his life around. I always felt he was more a troubled kid than a bad one.

Saw that too, though Martin gets much more leg into his shots and has a much higher release point. Obviously if it stopped working for him he'd have changed, but if you took that shooting motion and put it into the NBA, he's getting a couple jump shots a game blocked into the fifth row.

And that is what got us into all the trouble with the NCAA. Due to his horrible situation in life, I feel Calhoun and the program went out of his way for the program to get him here, to take care of him (and i do not mean that in any money way). He saw another Caron, and Nate screwed it up with the girl and that was all she wrote.

With hooper and DM on this one......I also went a couple of times and his game was solid, his offensive skills very matured and he was smooth and took his time like Ray to make things happen, in no rush!! Watch him do things like run and move w/o the ball he looks like Rip in his manners.....

Hope the kid has a good life.......
