Boehringer Ingelheim Center.

Kind of just rolls right off the tongue.. and onto the floor.

I read "XL Center closes . . . " and thought finally!! But's it's just for renovations.

How about Duracell Center. Duracell actually had offices in Bethel. "No regular arena looks like it, or lasts like it."

Or Timex located in Middlebury. Takes a lickin'...

Here's a little-known fact. People forget that the Energizer Bunny actually came about as a response to the Duracell Bunny commercials.

Is this real? Shocking if so.

-> After months of searching, the XL Center in Hartford has a new title sponsor, a company that will pay for long-term naming rights at Connecticut's premier sports and entertainment arena.

Who is it? Despite a deal in principle reached this week, several people told me, the company's identity remains under wraps until we have a signed contract, pegged for early June. <-

-> This much is clear: The price is a lot steeper than the average of $450,000 to $500,000 a year insurer XL Group paid, starting in December 2007…

"I’m also happy with the fact that it more than doubles the amount of money the XL will get for the naming rights," Lamont said. "Well more."

Very interesting quote from Lamont about a potential Connecticut Sun move into the XL. That would be an unexpected positive
Would it? It just creates more possibilities for scheduling conflicts. On the other hand, I suppose it also creates more possibilities for games Gampel, which I view as a good thing.

(For what it's worth, Travelers' Arena seems like it would unduly prejudice refs before they even step onto the court. ;))

Wouldn’t cause any scheduling conflicts with UConn basketball at least. WNBA season runs from May-Sept. Maybe with concerts or shows, etc.

The HHC HCC - The Hartford HealthCare Hartord Civic Center
The Cigar - Cigna Arena

How about bring back the ESPN Zone

How much steeper? Would you pay $2 million a year for your name on the arena, boldly on the building, tagged on every ticket sold and plastered on every promotion?

That was the estimated value of the naming rights last summer, when the arena's management firm, Oak View Group, known as OVG, started hawking the rights to local corporations and national consumer businesses. I was able to get my hands on the offer sheet.

So now they'll decrease the cost for UConn to play there? Right? Lol

Yep, of course that's right!

A long time Whalers and UConn ticket holder. Even was there the night the roof collapsed, and followed the Whalers to Springfield. UConn alum and lifelong die hard fan.
That being said, I have no opinion on the name. Just do it right, the rebuild, the naming, and financial terms. Amen.

There are only 22 home games over 4 months so I don't think there would be many conflicts in Hartford.

As for playing in Hartford, I think it is possible if an owner decides that makes the most sense financially. TD Garden is pretty well booked, but they could squeeze a WNBA team in, but May and June would be tough scheduling months if the Celtics and Bruins make the playoffs and October would be tough to schedule if the WNBA team made the playoffs. In NY, the Liberty play at Barclays, not MSG, as there is only an NBA team playing there. And, the Garden is not going to give up sold out concerts, Bruins, and Celtic games for a team that would probably play in front of a half full arena (or less) at low ticket prices.

This paragraph in the article had me cracking up:, Viagra night lol:

“Connecticut has been the home of lots of big pharma. Pfizer, the biggest, with a hefty workforce in New London County, doesn't have its name on an arena and the cultural fit just doesn't seem right. Would they host Viagra night? Lipitor Lane in the concourse?”

To make it a valid test, some people have to get a placebo instead of the real thing.
