Dumb idea to change the conference name. Does the addition of TA&M make the Southeast Conference the South Conference cause it's creeping to the west. When you have a known brand name, you stick with it. Big 10 comes to mind. The NFL stayed that way even after absorbing the AFL. Some wanted the combination to be called The UFL. And even though they stayed with The National Football League, they created National and American Conferences.
We are The Big East. We will remain The Big East. And we'll have Eastern and Western Divisions.

The beauty of this also is that announcers will try to make it easy to distinguish for the viewers. They will refer to the current ACC as ACC-Atlantic and they will refer to the new conference as ACC-America.. :-P

USAC United States Athletic Conference. Of course the smart asses will call it the USUC conference which could be the chip on the shoulder needed to bring out the fight in the dog.


Might be workable as a all sports conference of 20 teams if you could get the five best from the West, Central, South and North East that are available or could be persuaded to jump in. Miami might get the "Death Penalty" and could get the boot from the ACC. It won't take long for them to make a huge comeback with the right people in place. Penn St and Ohio St, both reeling in scandal might be up for a change of scenery if a Northern or Central division of a super conference that makes sense came to be. SMU, Rice, Houston, all candidates in football and who knows in other sports. USF, UCF, Memphis? UConn, Rutgers, Louisville, Cincy, Temple all looking for something better than what they are facing now. You could put one heck of a good conference together if you started to look around. Work out the logistics so that no one gets hammered travel wise but set it up with a two playoff series to determine who gets the BCS bid (4 divisions, winner of each plays). Could work into a nice Thanksgiving weekend showpiece.
