Well I especially love it because it comes to us from the future. How'd you know he was going to say that tomorrow??

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure that one it.

The women's board trashed DiMauro a few days ago. Guess it wasn't appreciated.

But here we are, Feb. 20, and the UConn women are a pretender. Period. This season has been more failure than success, based on the following: the aforementioned home losses, the alarming regression of freshman Breanna Stewart and the general lack of anything productive in big games from Caroline Doty.

If that doesn't change, the Huskies may still get to New Orleans, but for nothing more than a cameo.

Yeah, that 24-2 record is pretty pathetic.

Nan, you really have to wonder at that. I mean, really. In his mind, unless Geno and these young ladies are absolutely God-like, then they're frauds. The expectation of this guy (and many other people) is that unless they go undefeated, the season is a failure. I guess that's what makes them so great. Those same expectations make Alabama football great, or Ohio State, Michigan, USC . . . . We don't have those yet for our football team, but it is interesting that Geno basketball has achieved Alabama football type stature.

I'm convinced that it has nothing to do with expectations with this guy. He knows that he is a third rate journalist at a second rate newspaper. The only way that he can sell himself and his newspaper is by writing inflammatory stuff about UConn. Hate-talk about a university draws just as much attention as love-talk, and DiMauro has created that for himself with quotes like: "UConn women are a pretender. Period." Yeah right, jacka$$...

p.s.
By the way, the best way to deal with a type of journalist like DiMauro is to pay them no attention at all....like most people do anyways....

Dan, interesting comment. I personally find it hard to believe that anyone in that business is motivated by anything other than passion, and thus, he is speaking his gut rather than any type of agenda. It's just how he feels. Secondly, you're right, I don't read DiMauro because he is just so immature that it's not worth listening to what he has to say. So, I'm in the "pay not attention" group that you referred to. But from when I do read him, he's not agenda driven. He's just not a great journalist. He's OK.

Don't get me wrong. The Day is a nice little regional paper. I know people that have worked there. But there's no doubt that it's second class. It's probably the fourth or fifth most popular paper in CT alone. And DiMauro....

Well you do think the men are going to win a national title this year.....

Yes, Whaler. Yes, I believe that the men will win a tourney that they aren't allowed to play in. I take it by your sarcasm that you aren't a believer in the women winning the tourney this year. But all the women have done this year is:

1) Beat the "at the time" #1 Stanford team in Stanford by 26 points.
2) Beat #4 Duke by 30 points.
3) Ripped the numbers 9, 10, 14, 15, and 16 ranked teams.
4) Lost to the current #2 team by 1 point (which we will play on Monday again).
5) Lost to the current #1 team by 6 points in a game where we committed 18 turnovers which led to 22 points off. And everyone talked about their big player, even though UConn had a player that led the game in points, boards, and blocks.

I can't wait for the women to win it all this year and I love all of the nay-sayers. I'll mark you down as a nay-sayer if you don't mind...

It was just a joke about your optimism. I should have stuck an emoticon on the end.

UConn could clearly win a national championship in women's basketball. Please remove me from any sayer lists you may be compiling - gracias.

He asked will. I have no idea if they will. I only know they lost twice because of this thread.

I'm still putting you down as number 2. I did it in pen, so.....that's that...
