Mullins out 6 weeks with ankle injury

Watching the rotation dominos fall this way and that way in the on-court mix, it is more minutes available for 4 or 5 players. I'm not going to guess at how exactly, but Jalen, Jaden, and Malachi are up for more minutes as well as Jacob Furphy getting some run. Duane Karoma may also find his way onto the court depending on how Hurley decides to utilize him. In our tougher OOC games the rotation will likely be tighter. I hope Tarris is good to go or we will really be in for some tough games.

It sucks that out 5* freshmen keep getting leg injuries. I hope Stewart is up for the challenge, but the fact that Mullins beat him out for the starting spot against BC makes me a bit hesitant. At least we can probably slide Silas to the 2, Solo to the 3, and put Malachi at the 1. It would be a smaller lineup, but plenty of playmaking and shooting

Also never good for your NBA draft file when you may miss 6 out of your 8 toughest games.
Well, the timeline suggests he might be back for Florida and/or Texas and then St. John’s and Creighton both twice.

Even if he comes back on timeline will probably be worked back slowly without having had any time to build up in live action.
That’s my fear, being back doesn’t mean he’s thrust into the starting 5 immediately. He’d have to come back and start dominating to get his spot back quickly.

It's now or never for Jaylin and Jayden. The opportunity was there last season with Liam out and they didn't take it. They're now juniors and it's time to really show something and be consistent.

Especially seeing we could have upgraded from them this off season and chose instead to bring both back. We doubled down. It’s up to them the produce. The quote from Dan that the roster was begging for one of them to emerge was concerning as what they are shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone at this point.

There is no positive in this. I feel bad for Mullins was really looking forward to seeing him to start the season. Hopefully timeline is good and he is rounding into form right around Christmas time.

Exactly…it’s his first year in the system. Big difference if it was an upperclassman coming back. He’s loosing valuable learning time

So is anyone going to bring it up? Is it a high ankle sprain? The timeline suggests that it is. Common variety roll your ankle even with some tissue damage in about three weeks you are usually good to go.

1. Can’t help but feel like this is Liam all over again. Brutal injury for a freshman as it puts him way behind the curve.

2. Calling for Ross to start over Stewart is insanity. Stewart is inconsistent but has shown real flashes and had actual contributions in meaningful games. Ross has not. I know Ross fans love long discourses on how he’s secretly Gary Payton on D etc but it’s a no-brainer Stewart should start now and needs to step up

Wasn't the original timeline 4 weeks for McNeeley's high ankle sprain last season? 6 weeks original prognosis sounds worse than a high ankle sprain. And FWIW McNeeley took over 5 weeks to get back into game action.

Can’t believe there hasn’t been a single mention of Karaban yet. This is why he’s back. To be the rock that we count on thru the rough times.

The AK from the last two seasons will not cut it if we want to really make a serious run. And now more than ever he needs to be that guy.

Mullins gets off the floor significantly when he takes 3's. A weak ankle has to impact his whole shot mechanics. It would suck to have this cause him to lose time and then lose effectiveness for a while to boot when he returns.

Injuries piss me off. You always want teams to be playing at full strength in marquee games. With Reed, Mullins, and other guys nursing issues the early games put tournament seeding at risk. Poorer seeding hurts the ability to advance deep. Truly sucks.

This sucks, there is no way around it. I know we talked about how deep we were last year and the opposite ended up being the case. However I do think we actually have the depth to withstand this. There are a lot of different lineups we can throw out.

If Smith is indeed the one who steps into the starting lineup, I wonder if that will actually open up a few more minutes for Millender as a ball handler off the bench while Mullins is out. Probably depends on how he and others perform against the cupcakes.
Even if he doesn't it is nice to have another veteran option on the bench.
