Mullins out 6 weeks with ankle injury

The roster is deeper and this happens to be UConn's deepest position. It still hurts just not remotely as much as last year where after Liam you only had Stew who sometimes was great, sometimes not. Now you have roster flexibility as others have noted to go a bunch of different ways.

The tough part is the non-con difficulty comes in quickly. The plus side is the Big East start is not that difficult.

This sucks, but when we similarly lost Castle, I think it made the eventual full roster stronger. If Stewart and Ross can up their games, once Mullins is back we may be better than we would have been. Only problem is the brutal stretch of game he's missing due to our loaded schedule.

If Hurley is to be believed it'll be Malachi Smith starting now. Though that's a potentially small lineup
I actually hope to see Jayden starting in his place. Give him big minutes starting opening night and let's see if he can handle it and get comfortable. Jaylin starting makes us slow on defense. Malachi starting makes us small and takes away our change of pace pop off the bench.

If its not Malachi I like Stew starting. He’s certainly earned it more than Ross and brings more offensively. He also had games where the defense clicked, and I think the staff can get more of that out of him.

If he's ready for it there's definitely an argument, I'm just not ready to make that move based on anything we've seen so far. If we're going big I think it'll be Stewart, but either way him and Ross will both have their opportunities to earn minutes early in the year now

As always, no injury is good. Never a net positive. But we do need those 2 to be super solid pieces so this forces that issue. This team, kind of like the Dodgers, cares most about the postseason and seems to conduct their regular season with that in mind.

This is a nothing sandwich, SO LONG AS BIG BEAR IS BACK. He is the one guy we can’t lose. Silas, Malachi and Solo will give us plenty of scoring. Stewart and Ross? It’s time boys. This is opportunity knocking. You don’t step up now and I will stop believing you have it in you. This is two years in a row that injuries open the door for them. Lastly, I think the Aussie will be heard from too. We are fine boys and girls.

It seems like every year our top freshman has an early season injury. Mullins, McNeeley, Castle, Hawkins, Bouknight all off the top of my head.

Guess the Malachi Smith starting comments may come true after all
Starting to feel more the theme than the exception. Sucks when your schedule is stacked on the front end.

Whatever a "nothing sandwich" is, I think it's not that.

On Mullins side, he could’ve used the non-conference to shore up his defense and get comfortable.

Getting his start during Big East play, a time that’s difficult for everyone to adjust, isn’t ideal.

It’s not nothing. Timing is pretty bad. He misses all cupcakes to get up to speed. Half this board also thinks Liam was pretty bad second half of year because of lingering ankle issues.
Yeah the lingering aspect is the worst potential part of it. Liam outside of Creighton wasn't very good after his ankle injury. It took Castle a while to ramp back up after he missed a month.

True. It ain't good.
But the odds are good that we see a way better AK, JStew, Ross compared to last year. I know I'm guilty of it too, but I feel that some fans tend to copy/paste last years performances to the current year + add the new pieces as the source of improvement. Yet this rarely pans out

Btw, there is a little hole in the wall joint in Rowayton serves the best nothing sandwich in the state. Only open on thursday+Friday 12-3.

Let’s just hope we win these games in OOC because they represent the large chunk of our opportunity to beef up the resume.
