I know they brought this up during the game, but I thought why not here also.

Muhl joins an elite group. Players that have over 200 assists in a year. She is at 204 now.

Joining.....wait for it

Bird
Dangerfield
Rizzotti
Taurasi
Jefferson

Nice company.

Wonder what the season record is and could she break it

Also of interest and something to watch for the rest of the season is the chance to lead the nation in assists per game. Nika is number 1 now but it isn't locked up by any means. Last time I looked Catlin Clark was number 2 and within striking distance. I haven't made the comparison, but I suspect Nika's numbers have been falling a bit since we have settled in with the current starting 5.

Getting those two shooters back could certainly help her defend her lead but with the current lineup it could be slipping away a little.

Like Nan said, 231 (Bird). And yea, she'll blow right by that.

There are at least 8 more games left, most likely 13+. At her current 8.5 apg that's another 68 to 110. She could, could, get to 300. Don't know if she'll make it there. But as long as she stays healthy, she'll pass Bird.

Nika I'm sure is focused on only three goals right now, all common to her teammates' - win the regular season BE title, win the BE tournament and cut down the nets the last game of the season. If all those are achieved her personal accent to the top of the Uconn record book in assists for a season and wherever she ends up in terms of the NCAA leader list for assists will all, most certainly in her mind, be wonderful side effects of her teams efforts to achieve them. Love this kid and what she brings to a very special season for our Huskies.

Nika is at 8.5 apg. Caitlin is at 8.2 apg. Recall that no UConn player has ever reached 6.0 apg.

If CD and Azzi both come back this season the extra two shooters will force other teams to play off of, depending who is in the game, Lou, Aubrey, Dorka, or Aaliyah. Nika might not play as many minutes as she is right now, but I believe that her assists per game numbers will increase because the other teams will not be able to just focus on one shooter.

Sue and Diana are 1st and 4th in season assists and they did it the same season combining for 439 assists in the undefeated 2001-2002 season - I like that!
Let’s hope Paige and Nika can do something similar next season - I think we’d all love to see that.
And that was only the 3rd highest single season team record.

2001-2002 - 846
2013-2014 - 850
2016-2017 - 863

So Bird and Taurasi did it in the same season. Could that happen again next year?
I hope not. Wanna see Paige at 4/5 apg and lighting it up all over the floor.

Nan, does the single season record include post season games as well such as the BE and NCAA tourneys or just regular season games?
All records include all official games, regular season (including early season tournaments like the preseason NIT) and tournaments. NCAA basketball treats all games together, which makes more sense to me.

I believe it does, yes
