Cuango, I noticed that you listed the Shop Around The Corner. I know it's not a highpowered movie but it's always been one of my very favorites and the cast was beyond credible. I considerate it one of the best holiday movies ever made.

Love the Stephen Chow movies.
Chow's final on-screen performance was in CJ7 (2008), after which he transitioned fully to filmmaking, achieving great success with comedies such as Journey to the West (2013) and The Mermaid (2016).

Many good movies listed above.

It's funny because I'm watch the Infinity Saga Marvel movies right now while I have the tv all to myself. I'm doing other things and just have them on in the background.

However, when I'm done which will be in the next couple of days, I have a list I do want to watch and pay attention to.

L.A. Confidential
A Few Good Men
Scent of a Woman
Young Frankenstein
The Bourne Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum
In Good Company
Inside Man
Wedding Crashers
Hacksaw Ridge
Tommy Boy

(Just watched Shawshank and though it is not a movie, Band of Brothers)

lots of favorites mentioned are totally right on, but i highly recommend two that have not made anyones list. they are pretty much under the radar apparently. both are very offbeat and original:

NO SUCH THING -- (2002) about a journalist who investigates rumors of a monster (not a man acting like a monster, a real monster) in iceland. she finds it, they become friendly and she discovers it is not at all dangerous, but is misunderstood. it stars a young sarah polley, who also directs. it's very moving, also there's good drama/mystery. helen mirren and julie christie make appearances. 'darkly funny. highly original' says la times critic.

LOCAL HERO -- a comedy with a touch of the mystical from writer/director bill forsyth that came out 20-30 years ago. mostly about the inhabitants of a small coastal village in scotland that is being targeted as site for an oil terminal by a texas outfit. it's very funny but has a lot of soul too, and the characters are great. big star is burt lancaster, the oil tycoon who appears late in the flick but comes with a surprising revelation. this was a well-regarded movie that didn't do great box office.

neither of these is likely to show up as a TV offering. maybe streaming. i've got dvds to revisit when i'm in the mood.

every christmas i watch LOVE ACTUALLY, which often shows up during the holidays ... but NOT in this thread. there are many A-listers in the separate but related segments and keira knightley is incredibly luminous. it's hilarious at times, sentimenl at times but i especially love its music -- in particular use of the beach boys' 'god only knows' played behind the concluding scene of arrivals at a london airport.

The Sting - This is a great movie with a fun twist

Jaws - My brother and I quote this movie endlessly. "You're gonna need a bigger boat..."

Glory - I was a brand-new soldier the first time I saw this movie. The selflessness, bravery, and grit of these men was inspiring.

Dead Poets Society - I became a teacher in part because of this movie. "O Captain! My Captain!"

Also had to share the beautiful opening credits to an otherwise forgettable film, The Sandpiper.

The trumpet player was Jack Sheldon. The song is The Shadow of Your Smile.
