Movies you wish to watch, or want to watch again

.-.
Many good movies listed above.

It's funny because I'm watch the Infinity Saga Marvel movies right now while I have the tv all to myself. I'm doing other things and just have them on in the background.

However, when I'm done which will be in the next couple of days, I have a list I do want to watch and pay attention to.

L.A. Confidential
A Few Good Men
Scent of a Woman
Young Frankenstein
The Bourne Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum
In Good Company
Inside Man
Wedding Crashers
Hacksaw Ridge
Tommy Boy

(Just watched Shawshank and though it is not a movie, Band of Brothers)

lots of favorites mentioned are totally right on, but i highly recommend two that have not made anyones list. they are pretty much under the radar apparently. both are very offbeat and original:

NO SUCH THING -- (2002) about a journalist who investigates rumors of a monster (not a man acting like a monster, a real monster) in iceland. she finds it, they become friendly and she discovers it is not at all dangerous, but is misunderstood. it stars a young sarah polley, who also directs. it's very moving, also there's good drama/mystery. helen mirren and julie christie make appearances. 'darkly funny. highly original' says la times critic.

LOCAL HERO -- a comedy with a touch of the mystical from writer/director bill forsyth that came out 20-30 years ago. mostly about the inhabitants of a small coastal village in scotland that is being targeted as site for an oil terminal by a texas outfit. it's very funny but has a lot of soul too, and the characters are great. big star is burt lancaster, the oil tycoon who appears late in the flick but comes with a surprising revelation. this was a well-regarded movie that didn't do great box office.

neither of these is likely to show up as a TV offering. maybe streaming. i've got dvds to revisit when i'm in the mood.

every christmas i watch LOVE ACTUALLY, which often shows up during the holidays ... but NOT in this thread. there are many A-listers in the separate but related segments and keira knightley is incredibly luminous. it's hilarious at times, sentimenl at times but i especially love its music -- in particular use of the beach boys' 'god only knows' played behind the concluding scene of arrivals at a london airport.

The Sting - This is a great movie with a fun twist

Jaws - My brother and I quote this movie endlessly. "You're gonna need a bigger boat..."

Glory - I was a brand-new soldier the first time I saw this movie. The selflessness, bravery, and grit of these men was inspiring.

Dead Poets Society - I became a teacher in part because of this movie. "O Captain! My Captain!"

Also had to share the beautiful opening credits to an otherwise forgettable film, The Sandpiper.

The trumpet player was Jack Sheldon. The song is The Shadow of Your Smile.

Finally a Local Hero mention. :)

As someone who loves comedy (& can enjoy humor that is patently "wrong")...
The Aristocrats
also
Fido (a funny and touching zombie movie)
Bringing Up Baby
The Producers (original version)
History of the World (if only for "The Inquisition" number)
Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles
Bananas
Love and Death
Zelig
My Favorite Year
and, oh so many more...

I haven't been to a movie in the Theaters since my kids were young (roughly 25 years ago). I pretty much only watch TCM,
that is when my wife isn't watching the Hallmark channel movies, so rarely.
I watch Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, African Queen, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, To have and Have Not pretty much whenever they are on. I also like to watch old war movies like The Great Escape, Heaven Knows Mr. Allison, The Green Beret, Run Silent Run Deep, PT-109, Destination Tokyo.

Many great movies all and many on the have-to-watch bucket list. Interesting that James Bond played by Sean Connery didn't make it on any list. Goldfinger? Anyone?

A lot of good choices there. Obviously all the Bogert movies. PT 109 made a huge impression on me as a kid. I loved that movie.

See post #38. Scud49 includes From Russia with Love (at bottom of list). My favorite Bond movie.
