Movies you wish to watch, or want to watch again

The first time we saw They Shoot Horses Don't They and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf we left the theatre totally exhausted. Not sure we could get that involved again, because we just couldn't get into The Graduate like we did originally. I guess You Can't Go Home Again. Oh, well.

I feel like this list is a subset of movies that you will stop and watch if you scroll by them on television.

The Godfather
Casablanca
A Few Good Men
True Grit
12 Angry Men

All of them come to mind as movies I'll stop and watch.

True Grit - The 2010 remake is really good too, with Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Hailee Steinfeld.

Two westerns I really love - Unforgiven and Open Range. Plus TV mini-series, Lonesome Dove, with tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall, Danny Glover and Diane Lane.

Recently watched a sleeper - Appaloosa(2008) with Ed Haris, Viggo Mortensen, and Renee Zellweger. Worth a watch.

1995 Pride and Prejudice (Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth). I watch it every year or two. I think it’s the best-ever dramitization of a novel.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai - such a goofy yet exciting SF movie.

Holiday (Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant). I watch that most years around Christmas, it’s a wonderful romcom.

Every time I see Better Off Dead, I say I need to watch it more often. Same with Contact and Crazy Rich Asians.

13th Warrior- a movie that inexplicably was panned almost universally, yet is one of our family’s favorites.

It Happened One Night- a classic with Gable and Lombard at their peak!

Kingdom of Heaven- very well done, Eva Green is fabulous!

A Season for Miracles- a very sweet Christmas movie.

Fallen Angel- a Gary Sinise movie that deals with loss and redemption.

Knight & Day- a different Tom Cruise movie with Cameron Diaz. Very cute!

Secondhand Lions- a great movie with two of my favorite stars; Robert
Duvall & Michael Caine. You will not regret watching this one!

Mulholland Drive, a David Lynch classic from 2001.

I have seen it about a dozen times. Hard to understand, especially at first, mesmerizing and mystifying.

Second favorite for multiple viewing is The Road Warrior from 1981, IMHO the best of the road warrior series.

Third is The Time Machine from 1960.

Others that come to mind are High Noon with Gary Cooper; The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; and Ford versus Ferrari.

Unforgiven is a great movie and is certainly on my stop and watch list. If you'd like Vigo Mortensen, have you ever seen the movie Hildago? That's a good watch as well.

That reminds me of Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck, and Audrey Hepburn. Eddie Albert is also very good in a supporting role.

I find it increasingly difficult to watch older movies — the fixed camera positions feel claustrophobic to me, as well as the mannered acting style — but more recent movies still appeal. Also, there’s a decided Asian bent in my household. So these are movies that we’ve watched recently and would probably watch again:

Kill Bok Soon
The Thieves
Exhuma
The Road Home
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
The Farewell

In no particular order…
High Noon
The Big Short
Man on Fire
Inherit the Wind
Tombstone
Friendly Persuasion
Blow Up (very hard to find)
Orlando (extraordinary photography and music)
Barry Lyndon (also exquisite photography)
2001
Unforgiven (Eastwood version)
The Godfather
Casablanca
Lawrence of Arabia (Peter O’Toole’s performance is one of the greatest ever)
Dances with Wolves
Field of Dreams
Dr. Strangelove
A Clockwork Orange
Singin’ in the Rain

I could keep going…I admit it, I love movies

I have over 1,000 in my collection (video & DVD)

Candy Mountain in a small, shabby little art house theatre with a scratchy sound system to match the grit on the screen. A Brothers Quay short to open for it would be nice.

Open Range
No Country for Old Men
The Lost Husband
A Gift Wrapped Christmas
The Christmas Shoes
Red
Galaxy Quest
Mimic

Nice list. Charade is a very underappreciated movie.
