A key factor in sports ratings is competitiveness. Having the game tied at the half surely kept/lured viewers.

If TN had not recovered from the early deficit and the game slowly built to 30 points, ratings would’ve been much lower.
I'd prefer that in future UConn games the ratings suffer in the first half...... ☺️

.-.
The fans watching the ball game got there money's wortk, the Tennessee fans in the first half and the Uconn fans in the second half. If I remember correctly this was their 28 match-up with Uconn winning 19 and losing 9. I am still predicting that Uconn will run the table and go undefeated and win NO13 !! GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!

less and less teams would want to have a date with UConn … you need some suspense and competition to draw an audience.
Don't care about the audience, I care about UCONN crushing their opponent. Especially TN. And not just crush them into submission, but crush them into never wanting to play UCONN again. Or better yet, into never wanting to play basketball again. It was extremely embarrassing to be tied at halftime.

Embarrassing for who?

Listen to Geno’s postgame comments. He said he loved that the game was tied at the halftime, that his team learns far more from having to work for a win than blowing teams out. This was a win-win-win scenario for Fox Sports, the fans, and the team.

Yes it’s Hard doing anything at the highest level.

Especially when we’ve experienced many years of “ everyone deserves a trophy “ the one that’s always made me nuts is “ they’re girls “.

Play Geno, Chris, and their team and be embarrassed, as you should be.

I’ve watched UConn WBB for many years because they’re taught how to play the game and are expected to play the game to the best of their ability.

Me, fans. Should be Geno and the team also, but I can understand being in the moment. And not seeing the big picture. By being tied at halftime, they gave TN fans hope. They made TN fans happy. THAT cannot be tolerated. A true UCONN WBB would never want that to happen.

If they want a close game, fine, just don't do it against TN.

p.s. I sometimes question your hate for TN.

I think you were missing the sarcasm emoji at the end of your post.

Geno is constantly building towards the tournament. Unfortunately the BE does not have the teams to challenge UConn this year. And you need the constant challenge to grow.

Tennessee is a good challenge, at least for a little over a half. And Uconn/ Tennessee still is a big draw.

Azzi summed it up saying Uconn lost focus in the 2nd quarter. They didn't communicate with each other. Tennessee sped them up. Halftime was a refocus. A teaching moment.

The viewing numbers are really good for Uconn and Tennessee. This was on Fox, a major news/sports network.

The BE schedule will not restrict Geno’s ability to get his team ready for the Big Dance. Every year Geno tests his team with the toughest OOC schedule in the nation. By the time he gets to this point in the season, he knows exactly what he needs to “fine tune” to be firing on all cylinders for March. Last season was a perfect example of Geno’s master plan.

To be specific, Geno knows exactly who his starting 5 will be and he has pretty much settled on a 9-player rotation for the games that matter. While the BE does not have the overall talent of P-4 conferences, there are a number of excellent coaches who’s teams run sophisticated sets, forcing UConn to work hard at both ends of the court.

One final advantage to UConn’s schedule is that the Huskies can get healthy and hopefully stay healthy. The Big games in the P4 conferences, particularly the conference tournaments, can be blood baths where key players can and will get injured.

The impact of where a game is being broadcast is a highly underappreciated contributor to what the ratings are. Games on Peacock just aren't going to get that many eyeballs. Same thing with FS1 and especially FS2. But put UConn and a major network, and you can see their drawing power.

Whose identity's at stake?

Geno has said on several occasions, he doesn't coach girls basketball, he coaches basketball.
