Did anyone see the UConn [men] and Florida State game on Saturday?
Ryan Boatwright...in his first game in college...was both flashy and effective off the bench as the third guard. 'Flashy' and 'effective' often do not go together but they did here.

He showed super quickness and speed....showed ability to break down defenders in the lane....showed ability to shoot from mid-range and from deep....showed ability to hit clutch free throws. It clearly is only the Dixville Notch returns but for game one, it was eye-opening....and much needed if UConn is to make a deep run in The Dance.

Based on what we have seen of Moriah in the occasional video and what we have read about her game, I wonder if she might be Geno's Ryan come next November?

Arkansas at UConn [men] on Saturday at 3:00... the men have serious potential with serious youth on the squad.

I would say MJ has a number of those same attributes at the high school level.

One thing about Boatright is that his final ranking in the Class of 2011 ended up being in the 30s to 60s depending on the service. The primary reason he was at that level was his height, which is admittedly short for the men's game (though he can jump out of the building in compensation). Moriah, though not tall, is not short by WBB standards. Boatright might not have been a national #2 prospect if he were taller, but he would have been a McDs AA-level player.

Moriah as a freshman will be a super athletic change-of-pace, especially vis a vis Caroline Doty with a leg brace. She has a gear that you don't see very often. Banks's reign as fastest Husky ever may be short-lived, or at least face serious competition. Throw in Diamond if she ends up in Storrs, and good luck trying to keep up with the Huskies in the middle of this decade.

When talking about fastest Huskies ever, it seems to me that Kennitra Johnson needs to be in the discussion. I know she transferred, but she did play here. No slouch.

Boatright was sensational. he really was. his first game, a big time game after a horrible loss, and playing a nationally ranked team. add to that FSU might have the best defense in the nation. sure they are only ranked 20'ish, but they along with Duke UNC were picked at the top of the ACC this year. FSU is no slouch.

For Ryan to come in and play the way he did, well it bodes very well for him down the road. it's a great analogy but as Alex said, at 5'11", Boat is way short for a PG. at 5'7", Moriah is average height for a PG. with her jets and scoring ability, tho, she's very similar IMHO to Ryan. great analogy Blake!!
