Is she going to be okay to play in the fall, or is this one of these nagging injuries that might turn what could be a brilliant basketball career into something mediocre? I mean Morgan Valley was really good then had her foot problems and was just okay after that.

I have direct experience with knees, resulting pain, and, as I have aged a few or 50 extra pounds. Morgan appeared to have gained some weight since her injury. She may have to battle off 20 pounds or so to lessen the impact. It does make a difference. And I'm not trying to be mean. I think MT is a super talent who will leave a mark on the program.

It remains to be seen. All we can do is hope for the best. There are some who are great after an injury like that - Sue Bird tore her ACL 8 games into her freshman season, but has had a brilliant career. But many other players are never the same. The list is longer for players who are seriously impacted by it than who come back 100%... All we can do is hope and pray that her rehab goes well and she's able to come back strong!

A root canal means they remove the nerve and surrounding pulp from it's canal in the root of the tooth, disinfect the area and put in a filler. There's nothing left to feel pain, so nagging is not possible unless the doc seriously screws up.

Once the anaesthetic wears off, she should be fine. There's no impact to the gums, they go in through the top of the tooth.

But she needs to take better care of her pearly whites, unless the operation was necessitated by breaking the teeth.

Maybe we need more(some) info on the root canals before we assume personal dental care or Dentist Quakery were factors of causation.

Definitely not saying weight isn't important, but she's also a 20 year old top shelf athlete.

IMO, Morgan may be taking a medication during recovery that is causing her to "gain a few pounds", or maybe she did "just gain a few pounds". But why do you find it necessary to comment on a young woman's weight, particularly one that is a) rehabbing an injury and b) a world class athlete? She has a) parents, b) coaches, c) a trainer and d) a nutritionist that are far closer to the situation than any of us. She also has until October to get back in playing condition.

How would you like it if someone came up to you and said of a close friend or family member that they had better "battle off 20 pounds or so to lessen the impact"? I think you might be less than pleased. Or so I would hope.
Please remember that while Morgan might not read the Boneyard, she probably has friends and relatives that do.

You might not be trying to be mean, but you are being thoughtless about someone you claim to hold in high regard. JMO.

Mainly, because some of us think of the girls as athletes first and foremost (and a whole lot less delicate than posters give credit for). As you say, she is a world class athlete. Semi professional no less, as she is getting $100 grand (or whatever it is) in tuition as payment for her services.

If women's sports want to be taken seriously, there's got to be the same facility to evaluate players as the men. Weight, muscle, and fitness are an enormous part of being a top level athlete, and very apropos for discussion imo.

She's probably put on weight because she can't train right now. Pretty normal for any athlete, man or woman. Happened to KML too. I've no idea as it relates to Morgan though, as I haven't seen her.

Was MT's surgery for an ACL or something else with respect to her knee?

As a new boneyarder you probably are not aware of Morgan's knee history. In high school she tore her ACL and it healed well. At UConn she had some discomfort in her knee last summer, played this last fall before finally having her knee scoped in November 2013. She came back to play a few games in early 2014 before having a third knee operation to reattach bones/cartilage (I can't remember which knee) thus missing the remainder of this past season. The hope is for full recovery and no future knee issues along with having another year of eligibility to play three more years.....
