More trouble in ACC paradise?

Of course, that 10 year deal didn't include a single game at home for UConn. That was what the legislature, not the school, reacted to. Personally, I think some kind of deal could've been made. Perhaps something like one that went Notre Dame, neutral, Connecticut, neutral, Notre Dame, neutral, Connecticut, neutral, Notre Dame, neutral.

Notre Dame took a "my way or the highway" approach when the Connecticut legislature wanted to play some games in the brand new stadium they had just paid for. You seem to take offense when people complain about Notre Dame. This is one of the reasons why people do. Now before you said it, you are free to make any deal you want, and if you don't like the terms, you're free not to make it, but again, this is the kind of stuff that leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths.

We overplayed our hand because some politicians in Hartford and Jeff Jacobs inserted themselves into the situation.

If you are a brand new D1 football program and Notre Dame is offering you a multi-game series, you play on the GD moon if they want. We screwed that up thinking we had leverage.

I don't disagree. But, again, it wasn't like the school thought it had leverage, it was the idiots in Hartford inserting themselves into UConn athletics. They really need to stay in their own lane.

We have two home courts because the legislature made us build Gampel undersized. We play football 25 miles off campus because the legislature overplayed its hand negotiating with the Patriots and wanted to save face by building a stadium, a half hour away from campus. We've got a senator publicly stating his disapproval about our attempt to get in a P4 conference, which would mean 50 million dollars coming into the state every year. Heck, you've said that the reason why we're not in the ACC is because our other senator made himself the center of a lawsuit against former conference mates. Connecticut politicians need to shut the hell up and stay out of the University's athletics except to smile and applaud when we're recognized either in the state capital or the national capital.

[end rant]

Crazy thing is that they screwed up the one single thing Jeff Hathaway would have gotten right lol

Despite the reaction here, I said nothing outrageous or controversial.

There have been no such games between the two schools since 2008. There likely will never be any.

Petty or not, ND forgets nothing and holds grudges forever. Ask the Big Ten.

We usually wait until basketball is over before turning this into a Notre Dame board. Notre Dame basketball sucks, its football program is wildly overrated, as are its graduates. About 10% of Notre Dame graduates I meet are really impressive, the rest are pretentious deutch bags who are like BC grads, but with even less humility and self awareness.

The Notre Dame football deal was stupid and got us nothing. If, on the other hand, we had offered FSU or Clemson a similar deal, we would probably be in the ACC right now.

Notre Dame has not been scheduling G6 schools (except Navy) as they have only 3 games scheduled with a G6 school through 2038. The ACC is pretty weak so Notre Dame needs to schedule other P4 schools to improve the schedule. This year's schedule looks really weak. End of the day, Notre Dame is going to do what they think is right for them and I don't think anybody can blame them.

Northern Illinois scared them from scheduling G6.

Out here throwing bombs and trying to drag in the Germans!

USC is already making 3 cross country trips; I’m not surprised they don’t want to make a 4th. Didn’t they propose playing ND in Denver?

With how loaded the SEC is, I can understand wanting an easy win.
They apparently offered to open the season with a neutral site game. Denver was an option. But it was offered publicly after ND had privately rejected the idea. Face saving move by the Trojans. I heard their AD and the Texas AD and one other, Nebraska maybe, say the same thing. Basically we are not playing tough games out of conference because if we lose it hurts our chances to make the CFP. Might end up being one of those unintended consequences of the CFP.

Settle down, Francis - they crawled across broken glass to ask for a series against our women’s hoop team.

Was it over when the German's bombed Pearl harbor?
You make a joke, but saw youtube short where college kids didn't know who attacked Pearl Harbor, one of the chicks at UCLA and from New Jersey didn't know the name of the ocean to the east of the USA. Hard to believe, might of made more sense if she was at Rutgers.

Recent posts discussing the ACC and Big East in the Big Ten thread but I'm putting my reply here.

Of course the ACC and Big East would never outright merge today. The ACC however has made the wrong move at every turn for the past 21 years. First it took Miami and Virginia Tech from the Big East in 2004 which even today makes some sense, but then it all went sideways.

The recipe for the Big Ten and SEC is large state flagship universities with big football followings. They both have a grandfathered private and some little brother U's but expansion has been about large state u football programs, and USC. The ACC gathered some mediocre privates and publics. Cal is the only large flagship but not a great football brand and it may as well be in Hawaii. The Big 12 similarly went after some non flagship publics but then lucked into the corner 4.

If and when the ACC loses its biggest brands, it is cooked. Grabbing some Big East basketball programs in major markets could help make the ACC a powerful basketball conference. UConn, St John's, Villanova, Georgetown to start.

That won't work and the ACC wouldn't do it. It would be pointless. They aren't going to add 2 or 3 schools.

Something BIG has to happen. If your idea isn't big, it is not happening.

So many scenarios could play out but let's say the ACC loses FSU and Clemson to start. Replace with those 4 programs - UConn, Nova, SJU, Georgetown - the ACC drops off big time in football but gets much better in basketball and ends up in NYC, Philly, DMV

Unless FSU and Clemson offer to join the Big 10 or ACC for free for 20 years, they are never leaving the ACC. The same factors that make it pointless for the ACC to add 1 or 2 schools make it pointless for the Big 10 to add 1 or 2 schools.

The big ten added maryland and rutgers for crying out loud. You don't think it would be worth it to add FSU? That's crazy.

I hate to have to respond to this. But there is no way the ACC is going to drop football and add non football schools when Tulane and USF are waiting in the wings, maybe even Memphis.

no one said to drop football. the reality is the ACC would not be close to competing with the P2 for football power. But it could be the best basketball conference. Sure USF and Tulane are options and it would still be perhaps P4 in football but better to be the best in one thing rather than nothing.

The New Big East isn’t even bugvtime in BASKETBALL in New York City most of the time. Definitely not in DC. It is “ big” in NYC when St John’s is good, but never more than the 5th or 6th option good. Giants , Jets Yankees, METS , Rangers, Knickerbockers, are all bigger deals. They also need to compete on the fringes with UConn, Rutgers, the Devils, the Islanders, the Nets. I tell this story because it puts the St John’s is a big deal in NY in perspective. Last year in the NBE tourney we went out for something to east between sessions. Went to some sports bar near MSG. Zero tvs had the NBE tournament on. Had some crappy sports talk show, a couple of other conference tournaments, Yankees preseason and some puff piece about the Giants.

The ACC doesn’t need to add programs in those cities.

Different times and different conditions and most importantly both have been huge disappointments.

Surely you saw how MSG was rocking this year when SJU was good. And SJU can be good with the right coaching

Yes different times but FSU is not maryland and rutgers. FSU is the best brand not in the P2 and is better than most P2 programs

All you need to know about the ACC is that all of the schools would leave if they had a P2 option. But, at least right now, they don't. If you look at which schools have received a P2 invite, it has been the flagship state universities, with the exception of USC. The dream for most ACC schools is that a new football league will be formed that includes them as they are not getting a P2 invite.

What is your point though. That is true about every conference not in the P2. What exactly is the dream for most ACC schools. That the P2 split off making the ACC the top of the minor league conference? The Big Ten took UCLA and USC. FSU and Miami would yield a similar benefit.
