I actually graduated from Blacksburg High School. You can't imagine a quieter, sleepier town. That there have been two shootings on the campus of VT within five eyars in unimaginable to me.

My son and family lived in Blacksburg for 8 years. My son was on the faculty and on campus when the mass murder took place. He left VTech last Jan. for a prof job with SUNY in Syracuse. We called him when we heard the news because, obviously he still has a lot of friends at VTech. He hadn't been aware of today's news. He really misses Blacksburg and I think it is a wonderful college town. It's a damn shame.

The word I have through my son from someone connected to several people at VTech is that this may have been a domestic dispute. The dead officer may have been a woman and the killer a spouse or boyfriend. That would explain why, as has been reported, the killer was not in the car that the officer stopped, but someone tracking the officer who may have been out to kill the officer. None of this is verified as of this writing.

I had no idea this happened today!!! Heard something about VT shooting and assumed it was about the incident 5 years ago!!!

Completely shocked.

Condolences to the families of the lives that were lost!

Slight revision. The officer was male, but it still may have been a domestic issue.
