Yes it was a very reckless play by the Ole Miss player. She was running at absolute full speed and barreled into Poa like a train.

The trainers and medics, you had ONE JOB, don’t move a player who just had a head and possible neck injury!

I don’t put any of the blame on Angel Reese or Van Lith for trying to help her stand up because they are not trained professionals, but the way the trainers tried to make her walk off the court was shocking and made me sick to my stomach. They should have cut to commercial!

Agreed. If I had a teammate asking me to help her stand up, I'd help her up absent any glaring warning signs. Also, Reese was motioning for training/medical help before she ever helped Poa up. If they'd hightailed it over there, the players wouldn't even have had a chance to help her up.

Agree. I'm all for the block/charge call for screens, or if a player goes into a defender while dribbling. The challenge with not allowing undercuts is that it happens so fast, and how do you define it - after one foot is off the ground? Put the arc back in so when a player leaves their feet and is in the air, you cannot go underneath? Something else?

but that’s not even what happened on this play. Her player charged through Poa who has been there waiting.

I feel like a lot injuries occur from bad offensive playmaking getting rewarded. I don't know what rules could discourage it but I feel like rules need to be implemented that would discourage offensive recklessness.

Too many guards allowed to push off or follow through (unnaturally) into the defender.

but that’s not even what happened on this play. Her player charged through Poa who has been there waiting.

If I recall the play correctly, Poa was below the circle. Last season, she likely wouldn't have been there because it would been a defensive block. This year, that area opening up has made the potential of these more likely.

Wasn't a fan of the arc being removed, but I'm also biased because I'm more used to and prefer FIBA rules. Maybe bring it back, but a tad closer to accommodate the preference of NCAA coaches? I don't know.

I think it's sort of the opposite.

Everyone coaches their defenders to seek out charges and officials have more and more rewarded it.

It's sort of hard now for a driving player to get a call as opposed to 1987.

This is frightening. I had the misfortune of hearing PSU's Tay Valladay screeching in pain after suffering her career-ending knee injury six weeks ago. It's so gut-wrenching to hear and your heart just aches for the player. I just hope that her mom, Christy, didn't have to hear it from her daughter (but I'm guessing that she did, unfortunately).

You are absolutely right, it was gut-wrenching. Her teammates looked like they were having a difficult time dealing with it; one player held her hands over her eyes, she just couldn't look.

Her mom was there -- but that may be a blessing in disguise. She was allowed on the floor to help escort her daughter off the court; and I'm sure she'll be providing important moral support.

Wow, I didn't see the whole game, so I didn't know of any further injuries. That's a shame. I do know that it was another "physical" game; I hope that these injuries aren't the result of yet another game that referees let get away from them.

Kudos to her on a great career and her accolades this season. While the hope for her and Virginia Tech was a return visit to the Fianl Four, she has been a great player and I wish her only the best in the next phase of her basketball career, where ever it leads.
On a side note, I suspect VPI will not make it out of the 1st two rounds they are hosting and that Kenny Brooks may be headed over to Lexington a week from now…
