Yes, vehicles to the players. This is vehicles to the coaches, it makes zero sense. Perfectly good NIL money given to coaches who don't need it, are in no danger of leaving, and probably should take a pay cut based on their performance, while those same coaches' boss is out there begging for NIL money. If the overall NIL is run this way, then we do not stand a chance.

That was my assumption. In terms of athletic department budget, either renting a car for them or having them use their own vehicle and giving them milage is a minimal expense. In terms of getting a recruit, giving them a car to use has a huge impact.

It is astounding to me, not only that the coaches or athletic department thought that it was a good idea to take resources that could potentially be redirected to making the team better, but also that they are online advertising it. You have a coach out there publicly saying the NIL funding is the issue, you have a company willing to donate goods/funds that would help with that issue, and you direct them to put those goods/funds toward funding something that there was no funding issue with.

It's not about whether they are using the vehicles for personal use or recruiting, that's not the point. The point is they could have used the vehicles to give to players to entice them during their recruiting process-that would be a better use. Even if that dealership can't provide the large scale number of vehicles that Utah did, just a few vehicles to the better players/recruits at premium positions such as QB, tackles, edge rusher etc would be a better use than giving them to the coaches.

You don't have to agree with my position or Dizzy21's position, but understand it had nothing to do with how the coaches would use the vehicles.

True. I think my biggest concern right now is ok maybe we can’t pay kids as much as we’d like but ideally what we’d offer is playing time and a chance to showcase and highlight their skills at a G5 level.

That doesn’t work for anyone when Charlton is calling the plays. What WR to come play for a dumpster fire that throws screens on third and long and plays not to lose? What defensive end wants to be on the field every 5 minutes cleaning up the offensive mistakes?

We need to seriously revamp our playcalling and approach to games if we want to attract talent.

Correct. To survive as a program UConn needs to implement a very aggressive style of play on both offense and defense. We need to have a fun system to play in that leads to very good stats for the best players. This may mean committing more turnovers on offense and giving up more big plays on defense, but it must be done to have any chance of attracting and retaining good players.

I mean, Maine was 6-5 in 2021, 2-2 in 2020, 6-6 in 2019. I wouldn't say Maine was exactly lighting the world on fire with him as head coach.

Even so, he obvioulsy felt there were holes that needed to be plugged that he didnt have the resources for. LB was a perfect example. Huge drop off from Swenson and Bouyer-Randle to what was out there this year. People expecting no drop off when there were glaring holes are not living in reality.

I believe it applies to all coaches. Harbaugh has been quoted that he would give part of his salary to NIL if he was allowed to.
