It's the off-season, so here we go. UConn '25 vs Montverde '24 (as college players). Who you got? Yes, I am aware this is a flawed method of comparison. I didn't bother to account for attempts from 3, per-40 etc. because I don't feel like it. But this is the condition I'm setting. Eat my shorts.

Who you got? 1 game to win it all.

UConn sorry they’re still a year from the year they play in college so not that close.

.-.
Realistically they’d beat the breaks off of us

If we could just do starting 5s absolutely. Flagg alone is such a massive upgrade over anyone on the floor.

In a true game, our depth would win. They can't play 40 mins each.

UConn wins if they make 3s, Montverdes lineup lacks shooting, but they’re massive and would murder us inside.

I'm not sure. Flagg, Wright and McNeeley can all shoot. Newell is decent on a few attempts per game. We have Hass on the floor who was not a shooter at all. Probably depends if we have real or slump AK

Is it the college versions of the Montverde guys in 25 or the high school versions.

My vision was the college version. Like how far could these 5 have gotten if they declared themselves a D1 team this season

Hurley has them ready to play, no matter the opponent. Takes a college national champion to beat them.

Flagg can shoot, but he’s gonna be on ball mostly. Wright is solid and Liam you can’t leave open I guess. But that team has the potential to brick hard in a one game sample.

I’m still taking them in the game though, the size difference is insane.

I think the answer revolves around who is coaching them. If it's a great coach in Hurley's orbit they smoke us. The talent is nuts.

True 6 months with Hurley/Pitino would look different than 6 months to train with Neptune.

I think a lot would depend on when the teams played. UConn was just all over the place last year but at their best UConn was very good and a coin flip with almost anyone in the country.

The most interesting part would be that McNeeley wouldn't likely defend himself.

Easy Montverde win.

5) Queen > Reed
4) Newell > Karaban
3) Flagg > McNeeley
2) McNeeley > Ball
1) Wright III > Diarra

Givens as the guard off the bench would allow McNeeley-through-Queen to rest, and have two-guard sets.

Montverde's combo of size and talent would be too much for UConn. I like Diarra's ability to shut down Wright III, but then Flagg would become the de facto point guard and overpower our McNeeley. I also like Reed's ability to battle Queen, but then Newell/Flagg would dominate inside against Karaban/McNeeley.

Imagine Ball guarding McNeeley all game?

Yes, Montverde would miss quite a few threes, but their offensive boards w/ their size from 2-through-5 would overpower UConn on the glass.

.-.
That Montverde team would have easily beat just about every single NCAA team this past year except some very veteran squads like Florida, Auburn, Houston. They certainly would be the most talented team in the country. A generational wing, a lottery pick center, lottery pick PF, borderline lottery pick McNeeley, and a 5* PG Wright III? Give them a top coach like Hurley and they probably go 40-0

I so strongly disagree with this. Those players may be better in a one-on-one NBA vacuum but not as a team.

Rob Wright for instance is an excellent dynamic guard but he has no space to maneuver with Queen, Nowell and Flagg on the court at the same time.

Liam in this case will also need to stand in the corner because he too has no room.

Despite Flagg being the best player, I think we win by 5.

Every single one of Montverde’s players are versatile. They would beat the brakes off of us lmao

This is a bizarre claim when these guys were literally a team the year before. A team that played a national high school schedule, went 33-0, and won a HS national championship

Rob Wright is the 5th best player on that team and he carved us up for 20+ last year

We truly might give up 100 points against them

I need to be clear and say all five of those players are amazing while also saying that they comprised one of the greatest HS teams in history.

I also need to be clear that they were able to play three college power forwards simultaneously because they were playing high school opponents.

If we could go down to the wire with the National Champs, I enthusiastically like our chances against them.
