I could've cried when I heard he was announcing the Memphis game Saturday. The dude has to be the worst announcer ESPN can throw out there ("give him to UConn, we hate them") and every game I listen to when he announces just pisses me off. Whether it was calling Bazz Boatright, or Boatright Bazz, or Brimah Egbudu (not even on the same team) or saying the completely wrong score when all he has to do is look straight above his face, he never ceased to amaze me with his total incompetence. Sorry for this sort of thing but I hate how whenever they can, ESPN gives us the short straw. Great win last night though made up for it. Lets hope we get a good color analyst Saturday.
 
I think its Len Elmore and Mike Patrick again on Saturday.

I like Kara Lawson... think she knows the game, and can speak well too.
 
espn is so out of touch, how about that blonde from before with the crazy blouse? how do you allow her to do play by play? who is she?? lawson is great though, put her in the doris burke category.

Kara is better than Burke as she doesn't get lost in minutia and pretty much calls the game as it is played . Kara is better than Warde too.
 
If you guys think it was tough for us to listen to MP's mistakes, just imagine how many bite marks were in Kara's tongue after that game.

For all his mistakes, he talked up UConn a lot. Hope it continues Saturday and beyond.

I couldn't agree more. I'm actually considering writing an open letter to ESPN on him. It's unbelievable how often he says the wrong name...he goes back and forth between Napier and Boatright like it's completely arbitrary. It actually cracked me up when he corrected himself one time. I was thinking - "Dude, you've said the wrong name 20 times this game already, and with 8 minutes left in the game you're going to correct yourself?"

The two most amazing ones werew when he called Brimah Egbudu (on the same possession he called Napier Boat, or vice versa), and the one where he said a fould was on Olander when it was on Shabazz. OLANDER?????? Five minutes earlier they were talking about how he and Calhoun weren't even playing! That one floor me, although nothing should surprise me with him.

This has been going on for a long time - it's not like he's just losing it this year. My favorite was a Duke game I was watching back in 2008 or 2009, when Lance Thomas made a 15 foot jumper on the baseline and he goes "Lance Thomas with his 1st three pointer of the SEASON!"...went on and on about it saying it was the first one he even attempted, etc. Scoreboard immdiately put up 2 points. Then a possession or two goes by and he says, "Oh, now they're gonna say Thomas' was a two..." when he was the only one in the arena or watching the game who had any inkling at all that it was a 3-pointer.

I don't know how the color commentary doesn't think to him/herself about how incompetent this guy is. If I'm Len Elmore I'm asking for another partner...it's just ridiculous. I'm hoping he doesn't have much left in him.
 
Who was the woman with whom he called a lot of Duke games, a few years ago? Ann something? The two of them used to make my eyes bleed!
 
If we were wearing dook unis he wouldn't have such a hard time. Maybe if the league teams adopted flopping, hugging and floor slapping he would get better or at least be more comfortable.

I was amazed that he wasn't scheduled to do the Duke-Carolina game with Dickie V. That must've hurt!
 
He had his Ron Burgundy moment when he was reading the Journey for the Tourney promo for the Cuse/Pitt game last night and never paused for recollection. On screen it might have said Florida/UK but he kept right on reading blindly even though they already had 7 game breaks for Cuse/Pitt he must had forgotten about.
 
they must be punishing Mike Patrick for some reason. He's an ACC guy. You know he's hating the fact he has to do our games.
Or he thinks the AAC is the ACC and he's getting senile, driving to games he's not supposed to.

Why should we be the only ones who get to enjoy a few adult beverages during the game? Kudos to mike Patrick for saying F IT!
 
I like Mike Patrick's voice but not much of a fan of what comes out. He used to be a lot better. The one good thing is that Patrick doesn't do much instant analysis. He leaves that to Elmore.
It is probably time for him to seriously consider retirement.

He had another one of those "toe on the line" two pointer calls today when the MU shooter's entire footprint was well inside the 3 pt line.
 
He also said today that Kentan Facey was getting more playing time with Omar Calhoun being out. But that makes sense, because I hear that Facey is our next shooting guard.
 
Slightly less rough game last night for MP. He's really rounding into form down the stretch.

He likes UConn in all reality so minus the Duke affiliation and not being a great play by play guy in hoops, he's okay!
 
The wife commented that the announcers have a uconn bias so I guess its probably true.
