If preseason hype/rankings have taught us anything it's that it means nothing at all. 2010-2011 we were supposed to struggle, don't start the year anywhere close to the top 25 and we end up winning the national title. 2011-2012 we were hyped to repeat and were picked to win the Big East and we end up struggling to make the NCAA's. Who cares what media outlets say we've got a loaded backcourt, one of the best of in the conference possibly the country, and if we can get some solid defensive play out of the center position we should be able to finish within the top eight in the Big East. This team is truly an average center away from doing some major damage this year if the media can not recognize that, that is their fault. Can't wait to open the season against Michigan State so we can really open some people's eyes.

Part of me says, "Nah no way." But another part of me says, "That's reasonable."

I don't know enough about the other teams in the BE this year, but I could see us preseason anywhere from about 9th to 14th. So many questions, aren't there a couple of nagging injuries right now? Anyway, it's never easy to handicap the BE, and this year is particularly tough. But i really have no issue with them picking us towards the bottom of the conference...

You're right in that there are many unknowns. I think the talent level is being underestimated. We are thin up front, but the backcourt and wing are very strong. I'd be shocked if we finished lower that 8/9. I'm looking forward to what KO can get out of this group. If they work hard, work together, and play defense, I think they can surprise people. I am excited to see what happens.

This is great news! No pressure on Kevin. Keep the bad rankings/numbers coming. (I'm serious)

You never know what will happen until you play the games. JC is gone and it is a big deal- I can see people thinking we are a bunch of lost puppies with no direction and not front court. They are only right about one of those two.

In 1999 we had T Night at the 5- (I'd take him in a heart beat this year) but if OC, DD or Boat turns out to be NBA material we just are not that far off talent wise from 1999.

Chemistry- we did not have it last year. We had it in spades the year before- it can make all the difference in the world. If we get back to being UCONN and not a team that had two players looking for the door after having the most magical year in NCAA history- a five whose best friend got the boot- a future NBA all-star who only had to not die to make millions we will certainly be a better team.

Norte Dame is a team that killed people with the 3 in years past- we need to kill teams by making open jump shots and wearing their out. Teams are going to score in the paint- how we respond as team is going to make all the difference.

I believe you meant Jake Voskhul. Otherwise, very well put.

What is this escalator stuff? I feel like everyday there is some new inside joke, or byproducts of HFD's insanity.

Did you miss Ollie's introduction speech? He said anyone who takes the escalator is a coward.

We are shorthanded on front court players, but not overall talent.

Shorthanded in the front court means that teams are going to attack us there. Expect a lot of fouls and foul-outs from the bigs. Without bigs, you cannot win.

You're comparing this band of misfit toys to the 1999 National champs? Let's see:
C. Voskel C: Who knows
SF: Rip Hamilton SF: Daniels
PF: Freeman PF:Olander
PG: ElAmin PG: Napier
SG: Ricky Moore SG: Boatright

I'll take the 1999 team, let you play 6 on 5 and spot you 10 and probably still win by 25. Hamilton was an established big time player. Daniels is a reputation looking for actual production. El Amin was a big time college point guard. Moore was tough as nails and Freeman regularly battled bigger better players. he would eat Olander 's lunch. Voskel was a very good, if underrated player as his NBA career showed.

Don't get me wrong Free I would take the 99 team as well. My point is only that you need a few players to step up and if we still have a couple of future NBA players on this team and they improve- we are not terribly far away from having a decent team- not a FF team- but certainly better then the talking heads are giving us credit for in the press. This team is also younger and less experienced then the team in 99 as well as being less talented.

I will continue to see the bright spots and I will let you point out the gloom (as usual)- although in this rare instance I can find no holes in your logic.
