Mike Anthony: Why Jim Mora's football program is so important for the future of UConn athletics

-> This, it could be argued, is the most important thing going on in all of UConn athletics, an institution of higher learning’s potential ticket to a place of higher earning. The basketball programs can’t be much better than they are, flag bearers for an entire athletic department’s broad endeavors. Football success, like it or not, is just as important to the university’s primary desire: to join a power conference and play all these sports under gold coin showers.

Football has again become a respectable imprint on the overall UConn profile. Mora, entering his fourth year, has done a terrific job. The Huskies, with another manageable schedule on deck, appear well positioned to build off of last season’s 9-4 record and Fenway Bowl victory over North Carolina. UConn, in short, is doing what it has to do — dominating in basketball, squeezing every penny out of every available resource, winning across the board, and allowing Mora to build something respectable. Eventually, if this continues, power conference membership and money will follow <-

yeah... i don't think that happens organically (ie. without us bribing a publication for propaganda) until we have an un-ignorable season, like an 11-1 year + bowl win over a good B1G/SEC team. Not elite team necessarily, but good. IMO we're still a couple years away from that, if we continue on our promising trajectory.

2024+UNC were a fantastic start. we've gotten the engine to start. now we put it in 1st gear.

theoretically we could replace our roster with ohio state's by next year, then just go win the national championship.
but we know it doesn't work like that.

we need money to get and keep the talent, and its only gonna get worse/harder to do so.

3M forfeit says good things about JM's program, but to go 11-1 AND beat a "real" P2 program in a bowl? (ie. not northwestern/rutgers/vandy - more like Florida, Ole Miss, Kentucky, UWashington, Nebraska) --- no disrespect, but i think the burden is on you to tell me how we do that NOW, and not in a few years building slowly.

thankfully im not mad at all. i knew that post sounded more spicy than i actually felt, lol.
