OT: Mikal Bridges Traded to the Knicks

Had a feeling something big was in the works with the Cam and Shamet signings. Sucks to give up Donte but this trade absolutely had to happen to have any realistic chance to dethrone the Celtics. There's speculation on the Knicks real gm boards that Mitch will be moved that I don't understand.

I think KAT is a great fit, and moving on from Randle makes sense and was always coming. I don't love moving on from DiVincenzo, though I guess his minutes were going down with Bridges here
Yeah losing Divo hurts. But wing depth was the strength of the team. If Hart can improve shooting that starting lineup is really great.

I can't say that I watched a ton of KAT games last season, but he's obviously an all-star caliber player. My concern is that in the few games I did watch, he seems to have changed his game to be primarily a 3-point shooter. The Knicks will need more help in the low box where he can offensive rebound and keep plays alive like what they had with Hartenstein. I trust this Knick's leadership to have done their homework and the fact that Thibs has extensive history with KAT. Sorry to see Devo have to be included, but you've got to give something to get something and Randle alone was never going to bring back a star. I'm excited for the new season.
Yeah there’s a reason the Wolves became a much better team once they brought in Rudy to play center.

Depending on KAT to man the 5, especially defensively, is a bad idea. He’s soft. The Knicks success came at being one of the best defensive and most physical teams. Especially in the paint with Robinson and Hartenstein. This goes alllll the way against that and there honestly wasn’t a need to do so. KAT sucked defensively even when Thibs was there and he’s too soft to man the paint.

Embiid is going to eat his lunch in that matchup. They would’ve been better off getting a Jarrett Allen for a cheaper price.

I'm guessing the long-term plan might be to play KAT at the 4, with Mitchell Robinson at the 5. That pushes OG to the 3, along with Bridges at the 2, Brunson on point and puts Hart as the sixth man. Again, I'm relying on Thibs to have used his first-hand knowledge of KAT when green-lighting the trade. Knicks will be counting on a couple of guys with bad injury history in Robinson and OG, to stay healthy.

I'd be shocked if the plan isn't to play KAT at the 5, the Mitchell Robinson experiment in NY is over

You don’t like Mitchell Robinson?
As a player, sure I like him. His defense is great, and he's a team player who was willing to come off the bench and play through his injury last year. I don't have a problem with him staying and coming off the bench this year, but he's already out half the season and it's September.

But they've been openly looking to move on and he's already out for half this season, and they just traded for a center. It's not hard to read the tea leaves when he's the only expendable salary on their roster for any in season moves.

Okay yeah he does have a lot of injury issues. When he’s on the floor he’s a great and big piece to what NYK does. Losing Robinson and Hartenstein in one season would hurt that team a lot though imo.

They were such a big part of their defense being so good. KAT at the 5 is not trustworthy defensively

My take as one who roots against the Knicks. Randle was surplus to needs. If KAT buys-in the Knicks are better, maybe much better.

KAT is a 5 and playing him anywhere else doesn't make sense for the roster they've built. The reality is they've already lost Robinson, so we can compliment him all we want, but they don't have him available
