I just want facts. I understand decisions take longer these days with the added NIL and revenue sharing deals. UConn Basketball needs something like this for official news

Khamenia will start if he commits here.

Ross is not a PF. He's more likely to back up the 2. If anyone is backing up the 4 it's Stewart. Stewart has 20lbs on Ross. If Stewart decides to leave for more PT we would need to recruit a backup 4.

We are still going to pursue a backup PG and a backup C.

Re #1: We are still recruiting a backup big. If we assume that guy has some talent we won't be relying on Hines to play 30mpg. The most we've had a big play ever under Hurley is Tarris last year and he was <30mpg.

Re #3: Not really. Mullins is coming back and we have Jayden Ross. Possibly Stewart. County and Landrew are going to compete with both those guys to earn their spot. I'm pretty high on both of them (particularly Landrew). Great senior seasons against top competition.
No collage center that is active, defending the rim and blocking shots is going to play much more than 25 minutes a game. Even if they don’t get in foul trouble its hard work and they need breathers. UConn will recruit another center to fill in the minutes. There are lots options at backup center and Hurley has demonstrated that backup center in his schemes is a meaningful position. The team has a good shot at another final four next year and that will ne attractive.

Karaban was playing almost 35 minutes a game his entire career. His departure leaves a lot of minutes. I expect there to be more balance between starter and reserve next year

So, the roster looks as follows:

Returning:

Silas Demiray
Brayden Mullins
Jayden Ross
Nik Khamenia
Najai Hines
Colben Landrew
Junior County

Solo Ball (?)
Jacob Ross (?)

Alex Wilkins has committed to Kentucky
Donnie Freeman looks to have moved on

What are the remaining targets? If both Solo and Jacob return, that's 9. Hurley keeps normally somewhere between 13-15 guys. What's the final pieces? Another PF, C and PG?

Some interesting options:

Adam Olsen (PF)
Massamba Diop (C)
Mustapha Thiam (C)
Terrence Hill Jr. (G)
Paul McNeil (G)
Terrence Brown (G)
Tylen Riley (G) - A fav of mine that's left

Gotta imagine some foreign players will be in the cards too...

Sorry but I have to do this. How is that you don't get the names of our current players right but you can spell Khamenia and Najai correctly?

It is why Danny needs to do a better job of getting guys 10-12 into settled games sooner in the future to prevent a guy like County from leaving after 1 year.
Better job than going to 3 FF's in 4 years, with two titles? Hurley is the best to date in managing the portal era.

This guy gets it. We need a legit back up at the 5 not just a big body to throw out with 5 fouls to give.

Needed an updated grid for everyone.

at least 6 open scholarships, 7 if Solo doesn't return. Does anyone have an actual bead on who we are actually pursuing at this point? Or are we looking for high school/international builds to fill out the roster? A roster of 8-9 is better than 5 but that still seems a tiny bit off.

EOD Tuesday all players have to be in the Transfer portal by then. I'm sure we will start hearing more names once that closes and maybe right before it does.

In short, it's auto correct. I'm a juvenile probation officer and I have a current kid on my caseload I text a lot for updates whose name is Brayden....so when I type Braylon, it changes it. I also always spell Silas' name wrong. That's my bad. Khamenia and Najai have nothing to correct to.

I want another Soulman!!!

If we follow Hurley’s hint at need more money or we lose “Bball Capital of World” status and where we are number wise with roster, money may be tight and that adds another dimension to finding the right pieces. Also, kids and their “camps” are not blind to the fact that 9-15 got pretty much zero playing time at UConn. In Hurley I trust, but do the potential pieces in board with their own careers with high zero minutes possibility?

There are a lot of Centers committed in the portal but still some potential value plays out there that might fit our system Fielder from Boise state, Owen Freeman Creighton come to mind because they are good backup 5’s who could play some minutes next to Hines at the 4 with their stretch games , abilities to shoot and run the floor, and then maybe sign Rioux from Florida as a rim protector and prospect for future….

You mean 10-15. We were playing 9 deep before Stewart got hurt.

What I mean is that super tight roster rotation maybe good for the wins and the fan base but nobody is going to convince me it is a selling point to a potential roster target and their camp. Yeah, you can get practice pieces but a competitive players at each position ready to take over for your first choice, that will be a challenge to secure. Why it will take some time. The rotation became extremely tight as the season went.

We didn't seem to get much tighter after we got into the meat of conference play. I guesss Koroma who was getting some minutes early stopped but that was more due to having Tarris back healthy. It was consistently 9 players. Even during the NCAA tourney it was 9 players once Stewart got back but either way I understand once you get to the later stages of the team you are just looking for pracitce players. We are still at 7 players with 1 County not assured of any significant minutes. If Ball returns that is 7 thus leaving us with 2 more positions to fill. Looking like a big man for sure and then probably a PG depending on how Hurley is going to us County.

Playing time is not isolated to UConn as I don't think there is a good college basketball team that doesn't have an 8 to 9 man rotation. Here are the Final 4 player rotations:

UConn: 9 players
Illinois: 8 players
Michigan: 9 players
Arizona: 8 players

There are clear playing time opportunities at UConn for next year:

1) Backup center. Reibe averaged ~14 minutes per game last year.
2) Backup point guard. Maybe Country can fill in, but I would expect a veteran to be added. Smith played ~16 minutes per game.

I am not gonna go again thru the above mentioned teams’ statistics. I will just use Illinois. Not true re: 9 players. Not a single player on their listed roster played in less than 9 games or averaged less than 3.5 minutes. This is from their official website. Re: additions, without serviceable PG and C, you are one injury away from hopes for deep runs for any trophies to remain a post on the BY site.

💯! I don’t think County who is really a combo guard could take over if Demary gets hurt…There are guys out there at both positions but they are going quick, some possible good fits Pop Isaac’s at PG played at a few places including Creighton so knows BE, at center mentioned on another string Centers Freeman from Creighton coming off injuries at lower value right now and Felder from Boise St who played at Georgetown could both spell Hines and play next to him as stretch 4, all 3 of these players rated a bit lower than high end guys so should be more affordable but could really contribute
