I would rather see Columbia/ Princeton #. 2 than any P-6 team in the bottom half of their conference
I second this.
Thanks. My OP on this topic was in regard to teams that languished in the mid to lower part of their conferences, albeit a perceived "power' conference, get hot or lucky in the conf tourney and they end up with a NCAA bid. Were they really that good, or was is the misfortune of opponents? That's what I don't like rewarded, the mediocrity until it matters. This goes along with arguments about losses being good because it's a deep conference. Just win.

The media picked East Carolina to finish in last place in the American Athletic.

Well they just defeated Houston 46-44 to win the championship, and advance to the NCAAs for the first time since 2007. :).

I watched the first two rounds of the AAC tourney before I left to go up to KC to see the Big 12 that kicked off tonight. I was very impressed by what I saw of EC Tuesday night. They definitely looked like the best team there. I wondered about that prediction when I saw them play. Meanwhile at KC tonight KU who should have thumped TCU wound up getting beat by the team that has only one league victory this year. Sometimes in these tourneys you can have some unpredictable results. It's kind of like a cat fight, you never know which one is winning. Sometimes the cat on the bottom is clawing the top cats stomach into shreds.

In the SWAC semi's. #1 seed and defending champs Jackson State led 63-59 with 12.8 seconds left vs Southern. Southern had no timeouts but proceeded to go down and #2 hit a deep 3 pointer to cut the lead to 63-62. They fouled JSU and the Tigers went 1-2 from the Foul Line to make the score 64-62. And then this happened :eek::eek::eek:

#2 did it again. Southern with the upset 65-64.

Vermont beat Albany 38-36 for the America East title. That is a FINAL SCORE. UAlb had to score 19 in the 4th quarter just to manage that. 17 thru the first 3 quarters?!

Welp... Columbia will be sweating on Sunday Evening.
ESPN just updated the projections and Columbia fell to the first team out of the tournament. Previously they were high enough they weren’t even listed on First Four Out or First Four Byes. Devastating loss.

Columbia played a good schedule, but the best win they had was against Princeton at NET39 and Miami at NET50. With a current NET of 46, down from 45, I always saw them as a bubble team, and now I don't think they make it as most of the other bubble teams have better wins on their resume.

With FGCU and Middle TN winning their conference championships, the possible bubble busting conference tournaments are over, with USF and Gonzaga being the only two losers that will make the tournament anyway. The rest of the conference tournaments will have no NCAA at large implications.

Congratulations to Hawaii WBB for winning the Big West for the second time in a row. Came back from 15 down in the second half to defeat UCSB 61-59 converting a 3 point play with 3.4 seconds to go.

Also I think focusing on the outgoing coach's coaching tree is often a mistake. Usually there are better candidates if you are open minded to it. I would be very disappointed if OSU was to replace Rueck and focused entirely on his former or current assistant coaches.
They ain't gonna do nothing. The mess is on the mens side. $$$$$

Another possible bump in the final bracket - Holy Cross (23-8/13-5) is up 12 over Boston U (24-7/17-1) with 3:00 left in the 3Q.

I think the underdog won every game today. Monmouth over Towson in the Colonial and Drake over Belmont in the Missouri Valley (not to mention Iowa St. over Texas in the Big 12).
