Michigan State Post Game Thread

To this point, this is the:
  • First time we've ever made the tournament six-straight times.
  • Second time we've won a game four-straight times (record is five, from 02 to 06)
  • Most tournament wins we've recorded over any four-year span.
This isn't just our best-ever run, but the best four-year stretch any school's had since mid-90s Pitino/Smith Kentucky.
I do think they’re not getting much recognition this year because of this, which is crazy. There’s very little talk about the B2Bs we’re only one year removed from, and it almost feels like we haven’t gotten a ton of credit nationally for the games we’ve won because either it was expected or it was “just xyz who they beat”

The basketball fans/people with no connection to UConn seem to take UConn very seriously. I've been out and about for a lot of these games and I'm surprised by how many people I've run into who picked UConn to win the whole thing in their brackets.

.-.
Props to Izzo, I legit thought his team kind of sucked going into the season and it was confirmed when I saw the exhibition against UConn. Once again he made them a really good team. There's a ceiling on almost all of his teams but the guy always gets his teams in the mix. There's something to be said about pretty much always getting the most out of your teams and always having them playing their best ball at the end of the season. I will miss him whenever he decides to hang it up
They never had enough shooters

I didn't focus on him but Goodman and the Field of 68 guys said Mullins defense was great last night.

.-.
Nah - they were down three and time was running out. If he tried to make a move they would have just fouled him - had to take the space and let it rip. He did the right thing, was wide open shot, a bit deep. They weren't getting anything better in that spot.
Worst three point shooter on the team @27.7% for the season. 0-5 for threes in the game. In contrast Hopkins 36.3% season(and was hot in the tournament 12 for 16 in the last two games). 11 seconds was plenty of time for anyone but Darling. Strongly doubt that was Pitino's plan.

Let us all pray that Reed gets the same whistle as Boozer inside. Because I honestly can’t remember a UConn player that gets a worse whistle than Reed. I
Think it’s just that he’s so powerful that the contact seems more minor than other guys but he gets whacked without a call constantly.
He had a problem with reaching in. Seems to have greatly improved on that the last few games. Fingers crossed.

Reed has physically transformed. Maybe even from a couple weeks ago. It’s not just the haircut. I think He’s played himself into the draft.
This is the same guy from the PC game last year when he had 24 and 18

He took it with 4 seconds left - they were down three. At any point there Duke could have fouled to put them at the line for 2. I don't think it was as straight forward as getting it to the right guy. He had a space and a good look.

I’m talking about Reed on the offensive end. I think he gets a perfectly normal whistle when he’s playing defense.

I agree. Totally respect Zuby and Bryce Hopkins. Hopkins was already on my "all opponent players" at PC because of his competitive desire. You couldn't ask for better representatives to restore some of the former glory of the St John's program.

Poor Rick. I thought he was going to blow a gut in the huddle at the end of the game. And then with 11 seconds their (by far) worst three point shooter Darling throws up a three that barely hit the rim. Doubt if that was the way it was drawn up.

Am I wrong about this not being drawn up? 11 Seconds is plenty of time to set up more than one option and certainly not him launching it.
Darling should be in a big doghouse as he didn't make any important shots all game.

Random request...does anyone have a clip of the block on Reed, I'm pretty sure it was the possession right after the highlight reel Carr block on him from behind? I just remember the MSU guy basically jumping on top of Reed(?) and somehow not getting a foul. Wanted to see if it was as egregious as I remembered, because that seemed like a turning point in how aggressive the refs were letting them be on D

It was as egregious as you remember. It was about as much body contact launching into the offensive player as you can possibly have.

This one? Yes, it was totally ridiculous.

I will pick my team soon enough. If Bobby Hurley is at this game who is he rooting for?

If your brother was far more successful than you, and his team is playing your alma mater… there's zero chance he's not rooting for Duke.

There are always a few plays which make zero sense at all, completely infuriating. I am all for letting them play but if that is not a foul, then Tarris should never be in foul trouble. That dude jumped up, forward, and hit Reed on the arm and shoulder. I want to see Hurley's reaction because the UConn bench called it.

The way they officiate today has me very concerned especially given the opponent.
