On the same day the Dodgers get Betts. If only Selig chose to force the Wilpons out like he did with the McCourts

Gee, this wasn't predictable; I and everyone else has only been urging a trade for the past two-plus years because it was inevitable:

Yeah. I said over a year ago that signing deGrom was the priority and a big part of that is he's already gone through TJ surgery and rehab. Thor has good mechanics, strong frame (not like a Pedro Martinez) and age on his side. It just puts having him available off at least 18-24 months from being who we knew him to be.

We just signed him to a new one year contract in January so that's around $10M down the drain, but I suppose the bright side is that it's only a one-year contract and his value will be diminished now for any new contract going forward.

The season likely isn't even happening and if it is it'll be shortened a ton, so they won't have to pay the majority of the $10M anyway

I'm not even that bothered by Thor getting surgery TBH... More irritated that we gave up good prospects for Stroman for a VERY short rental.

Did anyone else hear the President's Mets comment yesterday? Answered a reporter's question "the Mets should come back". Just missed the video . Morning Joe . End of yesterday's presser??? I'm sure it will make Sportscenter.

Great start to the season, the Dan Hurley is perfect for Cespedes

Diaz's one game of competency ends giving up a 2 out 2 strike HR to cough up a 2-1 lead in the 9th. And Mets puke it up in 10th.

“I can’t do anything but laugh when I do everything I want to do and that’s still the result,” Diaz said.

Yeah, that's hysterical. SMH.

It's worth three blown saves this season.

Well JD Davis hasn’t gotten any better defensively. I’d rather see Cespedes out there at this point.

Just look at Diaz in 2018:

73.1 IP
57 Saves
41 hits - 5 HR allowed
124 K's - 17 BB
0.79 WHiP

With the Mets so far:

60.0 IP
27 Saves
59 Hits - 16 HR allowed
103 K's - 23 BB
1.367 WHiP

If he was even half as good as advertised we easily make the playoffs last season.

I suspect this will be a hot take but I don't understand the Diaz hate. Results were bad last year but he was one of the unluckiest pitchers in baseball. He's going to be great this year

I don't hate Diaz. I want nothing more than for him to be somewhere CLOSE to 2018. All I've seen him do is hang slider after slider, give up HR's and lose his mojo for over a year now.

The HR's are baffling to me, have no idea how every time someone hits the ball off him it seems to be a HR. Every time it happens I think it has to be the last one

Hard to know which season was an aberration. With the mixed results over two games this season I wouldn't count on him being great. Looks like another in the Benitez and Familia mold, i.e., great until the pressure is on. Which is exactly what you don't want in a closer.

I guess that's fair, I also think Familia gets a ton of unwarranted hate from 2015. Thought Diaz looked dominant both games so far this year, threw a great 3-2 pitch to Ozuna and got beat, sometimes the batter wins

I feel like we've had a month's worth of blown leads packed tightly into a week.

At the end of his career, they're going to show the numbers deGrom "could" have had when he gave 6+ IP with 0 or 1 runs allowed and it's going to make me puke. With even below average run support, he's looking at one of most dominant runs of our generation.

I've been saying it for years: We don't deserve him.

I think I actually like him better than I like the Mets. Seeing how poorly the team performs for him time and time again makes me irrationally angry. It's not *just* the offensive droughts; our defense is terrible.

All that said, I was mixed on whose fault it was for that second run last night. It looked like Nimmo was out of position to get the ball that put the runner on, but then they said that deGrom asked the OF to play shallow to prevent bloopers, and he said he would take the blame if they hit it long. And then the two WPs, at least the first of which was probably on Jake--but then again, I think it was Rivera's first time catching him, and he didn't seem ready to react like he should have. Jake seemed pretty pissed, but he was getting hit pretty hard, too, despite throwing some serious heat.

Fingers crossed for Matz tonight.

Gotta say I am impressed with how quickly the Mets have gotten into mid-season suckage form.

One week in and I am already thoroughly disgusted with them and debating whether to waste my time watching. If not for Keith, Ron and Gary I would probably have given up already.

I was thinking he thought they had a night game so he’s on the golf course.
