Just saying, this sky isn't falling. Tough road games against good teams. Now we need to take care of our home turf now, and beat the teams we need to beat.
Funny you mention this because in Eamonn Brennan's Athletic article from this morning, he ranked UConn 8th and ironically started his narrative with:

THE SKY IS FALLING FREAK OUT NOW BURN IT ALL DOWN EVERYTHING YOU CHERISH IS AT RISK OF CRUMBLING TO DUST IN YOUR HANDS.

Part of me knows that 3 of the hardest 4 games in BE play are over with, and we’ll likely finish with around 26 total wins before the BET and be a great team

The other part of me is concerned in the way that we’re losing, and understanding that we’re becoming a very easy scout despite how great the metrics are

I still have faith. We dropped 3 of our last 4 games and are still tied for 2nd most wins in the top 25. Hurley made the adjustments against Creighton to free up Sanogo. He’s gonna have to keep making adjustments every game. The success of those adjustments will determine our success in March

Both can be true. It is not an accident all of our great wins were early in the season.

Yes while theses numbers may not improve(not much room to) they can certainly dip if we don’t hold serve.

The sky isn’t falling, you’re correct, but this is why people are freaking out over the record and coaching

Hurley has always been a hustle and defense kind of coach. When he goes against tacticians he gets his butt kicked time and time again

PC

Hurley - 6-15 vs ranked teams

And the majority of you would have had him fired prior to their Sweet 16 run last year because his NCAA tournament record was 1-5.

At some point the majority of this board will need to disassociate Calhoun's UConn and the measure of success with Hurley's UConn. Hurley is great for the program, has room to improve, but what was the expectation this season? They'd go 20-0 in the BE?

No one expected to go undeafeated, it’s not the losing but how we lose these games. That’s it. We haven’t seen improvements when the games get tough

It's hard to lose and look good doing it. Provided everyone here understands they were going to lose games this season, then that's also understanding they are going to look bad a times. Now they have an opportunity to get guys right (TN, NA, JC, HD) and work on things in ways they weren't able to during the most recent stretch. Every year Hurley has been here they've played their best ball as the season progresses. Let's hope that continues again this year.

3 road losses against top 25 teams? Have you had the thought that maybe we were overrated and that beating ranked league opponents on the road shouldn't have been the expectation? It's not like they have been blown out.

When you’re in a close game and your coach gets a T down the stretch(among a few other things), that’s a a terrible way to lose. When you make no adjustments and PC beats us convincingly without their starting PG, that’s a terrible way to lose.

They didn’t even feel competitive.

We’ve known since Nova how teams are going to play us and we haven’t adjusted. And people act like when we say this stuff it means we hate Hurley or whatever, that’s furthest from the truth. He’s improved every year since he’s been here in one area or another. It’s just that these issues end up costing us games where that we should win.

What do you mean "games we should win". Again is your expectation that we'd go undefeated? What would be a game, in your eyes, that we shouldn't win (reasonably)?

For some posters (read: the one you're responding to) every game we lose is a referendum on the UConn program as a whole and was a blown opportunity by our coach. Meanwhile they complain for years about not beating Creighton and then go radio silent and cite luck when it actually happens

I'd like to add a little more perspective to this.

When we got knocked off by Miss St in the '96 tournament JC had been here for a decade, had only made it beyond the sweet 16 twice (one of which required a miracle play), had lost two of the previous three sweet 16 games to lower seeds (and clearly inferior opponents) and had a lot of people questioning if he could get past the hurdle to the final four. Fortunately the internet was in it's infancy back then and I believe in early 1996 barely half of the households in the country had internet access.

Fortunately, our HOF coach was able to continue learning, even in his then mid 50's (a few years senior to where our current coach is today) and it was another decade before he lost an NCAA tournament game to an inferior opponent.

Hopefully DH will continue learning. He has a lot of room to grow but it isn't like every coach is a ready made hall of famer from day one.

Thank you. No, the sky certainly isn't falling. Truth is, tough road games against good teams, and games we were in until at worst the last 5 mins of each game. A few bounces our way, a few made baskets, and even these loses could have been wins. This team is far from perfect, perhaps overachieved a bit early but showed us what they are capable of. Still, after these loses, this team is very capable of beating anyone.

Perfect, absolutely perfect summation of that poster, and others of his ilk.
